The simple and long term fix all wrapped into one

I believe the fix in general is new Defensive coaches.

I dont believe the offense is all that bad. What we forget are the intangibles. The offense plays with a ton of undue pressure. They no they have to score every possession or we are done. That sort of pressure doesnt allow your Offense to play well. I do believ we can get better on offense.

A new Defensive staff with a new philosophy is the fix. A D that flies to the ball.

Also, and this is a big thing that is missing here, a new defensive staff that allows the players to compete for playing time every day and every week and then follows through. I.E. if Tierre Green is not getting it done and another safety is outplaying him in practice then a change is made. Right now we dont have any competition. The starters know that they cant and wont lose their jobs and the backups know that no matter how hard they practice a change wont be made.

I truly believe with a whole new Defensive mindset and coaching staff and attitude we would be just fine.

I agree with you as there needs to be something done with the defense and fast! If our offense could just go out and play with less pressure I think they would play much better. Its got to be unnerving to know when you go out on the field, "If I screw this up we lose!" That's not good.

Well if the defense knows that the offense can't score then it would put the same kind of pressure and not allow them to play well. The game was not out of hand at half time. If the offence could have scored the defense probably would had played with a little more heart.

Redsteel, you seem like a very knowledgeable poster. Can you honestly sit here and tell us all that you didnt think the game was out of hand. There is no way you could have believed that we were going to win the game at halftime. Mizzou was stopped twice and it had nothing to do with our D. I felt at halftime we were doomed, i had several calls expressing the same thing, many of them saying we will lose by 30.

The offense can score and has every game til now. there is no way to make me believe that the offense new before the game that if they didnt score every possession they were doomed. guess what we didnt score the first possession and the pressure mounts

Im not saying that i love Cally. A lot of stuff he does is mindboggling. i wrote yesterday that keller continually had to go to his 3rd or 4th option because swift and pedersen cant get open yet we have this supposed great talent in henry paul holt and brooks sitting on the bench. we play purify every 4th or 5th play. We play huff byford hickman and sluason even when the results suck yet we hear about williams jones and barrett.

It does confuse me a lot but even if we play different offensive players the need is the same, score every time you have the ball or lose.

I simply believe a new defensive philosophy that proves it can work would do wonders not only to the offense but to the defensive players as well and to the mentality of the whole team

the short term fix IMO would be to re categorize job requirements. Dont fire anyone now keep coz as the LB coach but maybe transfer the coordinating job to Wyatt. I think he would be the best choice only because he comes from the SEC and their collective mentality on Defense (the SEC's ) is what is needed here.

Callahan's offense is to complicated and no fun for teh kids to play. They both need replaced! Clean the entire house!

The answer is no I never thought this team would come back, but thats because I have no trust in this offense. Almost everytime this offense has had a chance to show what it can do they have failed miserable.

Both the USC and Missouri games this offense has had a shot to come out at halftime and make it a game and what did they do? They came out and went three and out. Even when they needed points against Ball State at the end they went three and out and couldnt move it. They got Lucky that the defense scored or otherwise that game was over.

To blame it all on the defense and ignore the failings of the offense to move the ball when needed is amazing to me.

By the way I would bet a lot of people on here would say I'm far from a knowledgeable poster and I would have to agree. This is just the way I see things.

Not a chance in the world that coz would take anything less than a DC job.

Having said that, we really know very little about Buddy Wyatt, other than the fact that some folks have said he's the only one that was showing emotion--and he's the newest coach on the D. That doesn't mean he's a great coach. Not that I have reason to believe he wouldn't be a great DC...

IMO, it's pretty difficult to assess which captains are doing the best job when the ship is sinking. Solich went out and made a great hire. Does anyone here think BC has A) the nuts to fire Cozworthless B) the ability to go out and find the next Pelini? The thing that gets to me is where do you end when firing coaches? I mean our OL sucks. Our entire D sucks. Really, other than the passing game we pretty much stink up the place. I'm just not sure where the firing ends!
