LOS ANGELES -- Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips has been sentenced in Los Angeles to 10 years in prison after being convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.

The sentencing Friday had been repeatedly delayed while he dealt with another case.

The 31-year-old Phillips was convicted two years ago on seven counts. He has been jailed since he drove onto a field near Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. His car struck three people after he became upset over losing a pickup football game.

Phillips played his college ball at Nebraska and was once one of the nation's top players. The St. Louis Rams released him for insubordination in 1997 and he went on to play for a number of teams.

 
Most people mull over a loss by throwing back a few cold ones or going for a walk or maybe just watching TV or something, LP gets behind the wheel and trys to mow down people........what a tool

What a load of crap. Get over the past, every one looks for an excuse for being an a$$. A lot of people have tough times in their lives. Broken families, single parents trying to make a living, living in not the best places. But have common sense and move on to become great people. He had more opportunities than most people growing up in a normal house hold. He had every opportunity to make millions of dollars. He knew right from wrong, no wonder this country is where it is at. Poor LP, what a tool, loser, quitter, jerk and host of other names discriptions.

No sympathy here for him. He got what he deserved. A little late I am afraid. Hopefully they figure out a way to keep him there. He is in his element.

Unfortunately it will probably only make things worse. Prisons are nothing more than war zones at this point. Escpecialy in California. I guess thats what happens when your prison populations double in under 20 years!

 
Yea, but the prisons are just an extension of the gangs. There are thousands upon thousands that should be there, that get a slap on the wrist and set free. We had a Mexican mafia group steal our car. I actually caught the idiot with it parked in his drive way. They took him to jail, you know, grand theft auto, but he was out in 15 minutes because he did not have 13 arrest warrants, only 6 and had been to prison twice for theft, gun trafficing.

Our legal system is a joke. More crooks than normal people, add in all the illegals that are gang bangers and you have a state that is really becoming unliveable. Getting out as soon as I can.

makes you want to take on some real justice, but if you do something like that then you get more time then the real thugs

LP is an incredible sad case of a million dollars worth of talent and $0.10 worth of mental ability.

I personally think you also get 4 cents gange from the dime.
