I have no idea what thread that started in originally, but the discussion was from 6/26/13.

EDIT - there's more between HeyBurke and The Dude on that second set of quotes. I had it in here but it's not in here now. That's likely user error on my part. I'll dig it up again and put the rest of the back-and-forth in there. Apologies.

Well obviously most of the board loves the gifs or they wouldn't happen. So taking a page from Knap, maybe the gifs aren't the problem but the complainants are and they need to be removed.

I don't think the GIF bombing is really a problem, just because I think it generally only happens when it should. So threads that are already dumpster fires get the gifs, and threads that are worthwhile don't (for the most part).

 
If we got rid of people for complaining there wouldn't be many members around here.

Oh and to come to The Dude's defense, he posted this gem in the youthful shenanigans thread in this very forum!

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shop owner and his son . . . that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
