Open question to the board regulars and staff

This is a "family friendly" board. With that standard in place we still see avatars or random pictures of scantly clad women in sometimes suggestive poses. Would similar pictures of men be allowed? What about two men kissing?

I have no intention of posting any of that stuff and it isn't meant as a shot at the staff over the DS or anything. I ask these questions because it's a controversy brewing on another sports board I frequent that has similar expectations of conduct and acceptable material as HB. A popular poster there got into a tussle in some gay rights thread and changed his avatar to two men kissing to rustle jimmies. Many members are burning over it and the mods have told him to take it down...I expect him to be banned and it just got me thinking about what would happen here.

Hmmmm...I would like to think, particularly with the discussions that have taken place in the Politics and Religion forum, that our members are both mature enough, and inclusive enough, to not be bothered by it. As far as "family friendly", I don't see how something like that is not family friendly, particularly insofar as same-sex marriage law bans are falling each day.

However, I'd be interested to see how members feel. So, rather than an edict from the Mods and Admins, let's let the discussion begin.

Interesting question, Badger Bucky Excel. Thanks for bringing it out of the closest (see what I did there?).

Oh, Bucky. You can post an avatar of scantilly clad men if you want. And speaking for myself, it wouldn't bother me at all. More power to you! In fact I would even support your efforts to post an avatar of two men kissing. YOU GO GIRL!

I think this site is more mature than the other one so I don't see it ever becoming an issue, that said it didn't become an issue there because of the moderators. The staff let it go initially but only responded/noticed when posters started reporting it. What would HB moderators do if posters found a user's avatar offensive?

I'm not going to do that because it's not my thing. I'm not into that. I wouldn't even do it to make a point like this guy is doing on the other site...I just find the issue interesting.

For those wondering this is the picture that caused the huge hubbub:

I don't see why not, and to me, two people kissing doesn't constitute porn or strong sexual content. Nor do I consider a woman in a bathing suit to be porn or strong sexual content. If anyone does, I have to imagine they live an extraordinarily sheltered life in 2014 America.

In short, if it's within forum rules, and it bothers you, perhaps the best course would be to find another forum to frequent.

Then again, Bucky, you seem to already frequent every college football forum known to man, and for some reason I doubt this one is the most risqué.

Meh......I don't want to see that picture but it sure isn't offensive. If somebody wanted to use that for their avatar, I don't see a problem but, I do think they would have to be equally accepting of any comments made related to said picture. If that's the image a person wants to put forth then they need to be prepared to accept whatever callous comments it may generate. Don't dish it out if you can't take it comes to mind. But I find very little truly offensive and realize, in this venue, I can control what I see. If I don't like it, no one is forcing me to repeatedly be exposed to it- it's my choice.
