Where is Bo Pelini and what have you done with him? The Pelini who comes to Chicago on Monday has never been more compelling. And, dare we say, media friendly?

This is a coach who suggests doing away with national signing day. A defensive guy who runs an up-tempo offense. A coach who opens up practices to the media while most other coaches are putting padlocks on access.

Interesting guy. But is anyone interested?

Its been awhile since Pelini was seen as a rising star in college football. Now his seventh Husker team is picked to finish third, behind Wisconsin and Iowa, in the Big Ten West.

What lies under the radar could be interesting, too. This is Pelinis most talented bunch, especially on defense, since 2009. Back when he had a chip, instead of a pet, on his shoulder.

The third-place pick speaks volumes, though. Wisconsin and Iowa arent loaded with more talent than NU. What it says is Big Ten folks have seen enough not to trust Pelini, even with a better defense, a new quarterback and a bowl win over Georgia.

Recently I have gone from really looking forward to Shatels column on Sunday morning to really not giving two cents about what he has to say. He writes depressing articles all of the time now and it is irritating. Anyway, I think we will be fine and turn the burning of lack of respect in the players bellies to kicking some a$$ on the field

Why does EVERYTHING have to be endlessly positive? That is not what reporting is about.

 
No not positive.....Just not so damn depressing. I think anymore I like to read Sips articles like the one I just read in another thread on here. He can tell the positives and negatives without being totally depressing. Me as a fan, I like the upbeat articles that keep me wanting to come back for more. Sip tells what we have and how good the potential is and also shows what he thinks we do wrong with examples of why Iowa (Of all flipping schools) is picked to beat us.

Sipple may as well be on Bo's payroll. He's publicly admitted he won't report everything in an attempt to keep it positive. That's not exactly what I would call journalism.

I just find it odd that you used to like Shatel, and now you find him depressing, and as a corollary, Nebraska used to be pretty damn good, and have fallen off recently.

Sounds like his issue is, why does EVERYTHING have to be endlessly negative?

On paper, Nebraska looks like the most talented team in the West division, but they also have the hardest schedule (loaded comment I know). We also have a defense that seems primed for a break-out year, with a potential top 10 draft pick, but needs to prove it. On offense, we have an All-American, Heisman candidate RB, an inexperienced, young OL (with some a salt, experienced left side), and, for the first time in three years, a guaranteed new starting QB coming into the season. This year ranges from a break out to fall down year, with any result possible.

Nebraska is the Wild Card in the West (copyright and trademark pending). #RideOrDie

Because when Pelini said that he came to Nebraska to win championships some of us were gullible enough to think that he was talking about more than a third place finish in a weak division in year 7.

That's where the negativity comes from. If you'd rather think that this year . . . well this year is going to be different! . . . more power to you. History seems to suggest otherwise but we'll see where we end up.
