Ok so... what do Starkville and Oxford have that Lincoln doesn't?

MSU's classes haven't been very highly ranked. So there goes your argument for them. MSU wasn't nearly this good before, they were 7-6 just last year, and won't be nearly this good again when all the seniors leave after this season. They have a great dual-threat qb and things have come together with a ton of senior starters for one great year. MSU will be back to the usual next season.

Oxford is plenty nice and closer to talent than we are. Plus we aren't the only ones that say they send recruits through the grove to get $100 handshakes, it's well known. Look at how they hooked-up Stringfellow's mom and Nkemdiche's dad. Not saying they don't have good recruiting and coaching by any means, they certainly do.

 
You got it all wrong, a$$assin. Where the location argument falls apart is the fact that Nebraska was an elite program for 40 years.

The difference was top tier coaching.

MS State has beaten 3 straight Top 5 teams. Their schedule is brutal. That's the ONLY reason why they might not finish high in the polls. If we had their schedule we'd finish with a losing record.

Can we at least see if Ole Miss and Mississippi State can sustain this level of success before we start anointing them elite football schools? One season doesn't take away the years of bad football they have played.

 
Ole Miss has a good coach, great recruiter. Theyve had an influx of some elite talent the last couple years cycles. And it's quickly showing on the field. I believe Miss St. has the better coach though. And theyre in a situation where they have an elite quarterback that fits what they want to do to a T and a veteran roster all across the board on both sides. Mullen has been building for a year like this. Now, if Freese sustains his recruiting and can continue to develop and also continue to play solid defense as they have, I would think Ole Miss is a more sustainable program. But it also helps that theyre both peaking in a division in which Bama is on an obvious downswing, LSU is NOT a top 25 team-no ifs ands or buts about it, Texas A&M is breaking in a new qb, which as good as he is, it comes with growing pains. It's comparable to Missouri finally owning the old Big 12 North at a time when Nebraska, Kansas St, and Colorado were all three finally crap at the same time.

 
This is about the stupidest thread on the board right now. The whole premise as to why players should come to NU vs. Ole Miss and MSU is that Starkville and Oxford Mississippi are crap holes and Lincoln is way nicer?

We may think the deep south is a crappy place, but guess what, to all the kids playing at those schools it is home.

This may be a one year anomaly anyway. Lets see if they can sustain it over 3-4 years. Besides after Muschamp gets fired who do you think the #1 candidate at Florida will be? Dan Mullen former UF assistant and current HC at MSU.

Not quite sure why you're pointing the finger at me. You just summarized exactly what I've been saying throughout the entire thread. The location thing ("there's nothing to do here") is just something I've heard other Nebraska fans use as an excuse for years.

Yeah, I guess Auburn sucks too.

We'll see how "horrible" Wisconsin is when we play them.

 
OK....First of all, I don't think Lincoln is lacking in much at all that most college towns offer around the country. Sure, on recruiting visits to places like Miami, UCLA and USC they can take them to the beach. But, really.....how often does a college kid go to the beach when they are busy with school and football.

Here is something interesting that I looked at on recruiting and Ol Miss. I looked at the last 4 recruiting classes. Those are the players that should be contributing this year on these teams.

From Scout:

Team Rankings:

Nebraska, 34, 34, 11, 49

Ol Miss, 27, 18, 10, 58

Other than two years ago, They are fairly similar.

Over those 4 years, they had:

Ol Miss

96 players averaged 3.23 stars

Nebraska

87 players averaged 3.18 stars

They had nine more players and slightly higher star ranking. I would honestly say the average star ranking was close enough to say it's a wash since recruiting is such a crap shoot.

So, I don't really see Ol Miss getting that much better talent than Nebraska.

Yeah, but Ole Miss did sign the nation's #1 player in 2013(Nkemdiche) as well as some other 5-stars.
