Mike Riley has done a great job at Oregon State, in his hometown. But after a strong run from '06-09 OSU has only won > 7 games once.

Riley is 61. An Idaho native. Head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 1999-2001. Served two stints at OSU. He's 93-79 as a college coach.

I live in Oregon now and my Wife is and OSU student, I think Mike it the real deal and a great coach, I did not think he would be a candidate but he is a good hire. He does a great job with the talent that he has and he also knows how to develop a QB.

Um..OK. Not a splash hire...but along that line....where did the notion that there would be a "splash" hire get started? Was it amongst the fans, or was there an actual comment from the AD or his staff saying it would be a "splash"? Honest question. Is this just something our raging anticipation grew disproportionately?
