who would we hire?

Pat Fitzgerald

Mark Richt

Bret Bielema

Bob Stoops

Tom Herman
Pat Fitzgerald-How is his coaching resume any different than Riley's?

Mark Richt-Won't leave the SEC until he is fired

Bret Bielema-The SEC coach that lost to Toledo?

Bob Stoops-Not leaving Oklahoma until he is fired

Tom Herman-Interesting pick. Not a lot of a body of work to go off of.

You have got to be joking? Fitzgerald is nothing like Riley - that dude coaches with passion, he's a smart football coach on both sides of the ball, and nobody disputes that he gets tremendous results out of the least talented roster in the Big 10...year after year! If we were fortunate enough to get Fitz, it would be an absolute boon to the Program!

Edit: Looks like Fitz earns $2.5 million per year and possibly has a $2.5 million buyout clause (some weird loan-structure thing). Fitz's record as Northwestern's Head Coach is 65-53 (they are 5-0 so far this year) which is an incredible accomplishment if you knew the talent he's had to work with over the past 9 years. We should buy-out his $2.5 million pay-back and pay the guy $5 million first year. He's only 40 years old, so it's possible we could get 20-25 years out of him.

Fitzgerald has had 4 losing seasons at Northwestern out of 9. And as far as "getting the most out of lesser players", couldn't the same be said about Riley at Oregon St compared to the rest of the PAC 12

I'm not saying he would be bad. Just wondering how he's different.

Fitz has less talent on his roster than Riley had at Oregon State (just look it up) and Fitz wins in the Big 10...plays the spoiler often. He's only 40 years old and they have started out 5-0 this year. Fitz would be an excellent hire if we could sell him on NU.

I looked it up on 247. They are both consistently in the 50-60 range. I doubt the talent level is inherently better at 54 than 61. But whatever.

Riley played the spoiler often at Oregon St and won in the PAC 12

I will give you that he has his team looking really good this year.

Cutcliffe (from Duke) would be a great hire IMO. He's done a great job at Duke in his tenure, and has made them relevant again. He took his team to the ropes with Northwestern. Think he would have been a great hire, though he might not want to leave with the program he is building there.

I don't get all of the love for Richt. He has shown time and time again the ability to do less with more. In his past 14 recruiting classes, only four of them have been out of the top 10 per rivals with the lowest of those four coming in at 15. He's had some decent seasons with those great recruits, but he's had a lot of bust seasons with elite talent as well. 06-four losses 09-five losses 10-seven losses 11-four losses 13-five losses. He's shown the ability to lose a lot of games with elite talent. I'm not sure we can expect over 70% of his recruiting classes here at Nebraska to fall in the top 10. Just imagine how many games he could lose with recruiting classes in the 20-30 range.
He's also playing in the SEC against many other programs who finished just as high or higher in the recruiting rankings. Can't win em all.

it seems like only last year when we had Tressel in as head coach, Frost as OC, and Orgeron as DC. wonder how that worked out for us?
