What did we learn? Minnesota edition

Newby is a beast.
this a thousand tmes...and to think that people in the running back thread thought he was 4th string. Blows my effing mind.
Bo and his staff did a good job recruiting skill players. They just completely whiffed on both lines. Collins and VV were great talents though, just not enough depth on the D-line.

We need QB depth in future years. Most top programs have 2 or 3 number one guys that can come in and play without much impact on the offense, but not Nebraska. Starting next year that should change, and definitely by 2018.
Most top programs would struggle if they had to go to a backup QB for an extended period of time.

The QB depth this year at NU is truly terrible though.
This is true, unless you are Ohio State the last few years, if your starter goes down then you are in trouble and have to limit your offense. The only exception may be Alabama because Saban has never really had a good QB or good QB play. But they are so good everywhere else that they can win in spite of it. I guess SEC $$$$ allows you to do that.

And yes, it would be fair to say we don't have any depth this year. It is either TA or nobody because we don't know how good POB is and unfortunately we know how bad Fyfe is.

I learned that Bruce Read continues to amaze us at how disorganized he is. How many years of coaching does he have again?

Tommy will play through pain because he is a true hero out there.

Defense showed they do not fold under pressure at the end.

Cethan Carter's penalty almost cost us the game and Newby would have gotten us another td. Or we could have ran out the clock maybe without giving Minny another possession.

Iowa will be a tough game and we will need all hands on deck for that game.

OL and DL looked better today, but DL needs to get better pressure and Finish off the qb for a sack.

Was at the game. The replay I saw, it didn't seem like much of a penalty on Cethan, seemed like an acting job on a touchy call and the official overreacted. Or am I wrong?

We can win ugly.

Tommy and Westy continue to be the ballers on this team. Newby had a good game also.

Special teams is more of a mess than we originally thought and gave Minny 10 points almost costing us the game. Read should be gone at year end.

The OL continues to struggle. Utter is completely overmatched and we need a new center.

The DL still can't get pressure. On the one where the Minny QB did the ball fake and held the ball you could see he knew we weren't even going to provide any pass rush.

We will be really good if we can improve the offense and defensive lines. We can't blow anyone out because of this deficiency...our OL never can roll it on opponents and our DL can never just close out the opponent. I am not saying we don't win games but the elite teams have dominant lines that produce 40+ point wins and we are not there yet.

Yea I thought it was a ticky tacky call as well, but in that situation why would you think about pushing someone. Even any light shove could be called for a penalty, so he needed to be smarter than that. I will say it kept Minny in the game and I think the ref should have gave him a talking to rather than throwing the flag in a late game situation.

Gotcha. I can't disagree. Don't give them a reason to even reach for the flag, but yeah, seemed trigger happy.

I kind of think we only win ugly.
Our defense does well against poor offenses with no playmakers.

We finally got back to the ready throws for TA. Not sure where they'd been the last three games.

Given the slightest bit of space, Newby can make things happen.

Riley in post game interview regarding the 12 man penalty. "Junior Highs would do it better than that." Read won't keep his job next year.

The dude straddle Newby to get up when he coulda just got up to the side. He didn't need to do that. I can see why Cethan wanted to push him off. He's protecting his guy.

Minnesota had tremendous help from Nebraska's special teams in scoring 14 of their 17 points. Pretty good day by the defense.

This game felt like one where the outcome didn't feel uncertain, but the score made the game look closer than it was.

It's tough to put together an undefeated season.

Tommy is a champ.
