Trump's America

I guess I'm in the minority. I never have found any of these guys enjoyable to watch/listen to on a regular basis. Sure, every once in a while I would see a link to something Stewart or Colbert did that I enjoyed watching. But, a constant dose of it.....not my cup of tea.
Back when the Daily Show was a must-watch for me, it was because of Jon Stewart. Even then there were better and worse shows; you can't really control the news cycle or the guest selection...but this is true for any TV show I follow. Stewart consistently delivered incisive and valuable commentary. While I didn't always agree, I usually wanted to hear his take.Lately I'm reduced to keeping tabs once in a while on youtube (I blame the quality of the CBS web streaming site). I don't think that takes away from what any of them do, though. I hope their audiences stay strong so that I can continue to get occasional youtube clips.John Oliver is the one guy that I think has really transcended everyone. He's in a category all of his own, partly because his format is not nightly, and that allows him to do a deep dive in everything he chooses to talk about.
I really like John Oliver. Every once in awhile he'll sort of be a bit off but he's usually right on the money.

A friend of mine from small town Ohio (small business owner) just sent me this:

Sanctuary cities being cut off, making Mattis SecDef, and TPP dropout are all Trump had to do to satisfy the vast majority of us in the middle and we don't need to engage in some giant public jerk off to celebrate that. Anything else that goes on from here on out is extra gravy, as far as I am concerned.

I honestly hope more people have the courage to stand up to them like this.

Pulling this administration away from its worst, most destructive impulses is going to be an exercise that we're all going to have to participate in. It's going to take some cajones, because heads will probably roll. But the fact that it's the right thing to do, as opposed to pledging blind allegiance to Comrade Trump, means it is still worth doing.
So what can we do? Honest absolutely non-cynical question - I'm calling my public officials, sending post cards and letters to my congress and senate members, marching in protest, donating to ACLU and PP as well as others locally - what are you all doing that I can join? What can we be doing better or more of?
Find ways to create awareness. All the activities you mention are awesome and you are doing more than most. The only thing I could add is find a way to educate and recruit others. Help those that believe they have no voice to realize they can be heard. Whether this is volunteering for a political group or something else. In our current social & political climate, anyone that can be marginalized will be. Empowering people in one area of their life almost always flows to other areas.

Any entity that needs money can probably also use your time. My passion is typically for education-related programs for the underprivileged & underrepresented. The state education dept, local schools, and colleges all typically some type of volunteers in this regard. Your interest may vary.

It boils down to participation, education, and vigilance... You are doing great in this regard.
I'd like to add that CALLING your representatives at their office in your state (not the DC phone number) is usually more effective than letters, email, twitter, etc. Showing up in person is even more effective if you have the time. This advice comes from a number of people who have worked as staffers for politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Executive Orders Are Normal; Trump’s Are Only Appalling Because of What They Say

This gives a pretty good outline on Executive Orders, but doesn't compare the amounts Trump issued vs. Obama.

Still, it's pretty hypocritical for Republicans to either applaud Trump's Executive Orders or sit mum while he issues them, considering how vociferously they complained when Obama used them.
That's my point. We all heard Republicans ranting and moaning about how Obama's administration is a tyrannical government and how he trashes the constitution because of all the executive orders he signed without Congress's approval.

I'm guessing in the first week, the number he signed wasn't any more than what Trump has done.

I'm waiting for the cries of tyranny from the right.
