isn't it weird that there's no god's named Bill or Kevin? Not even a Ruth.

Who cares? It's my belief not yours. I won't force it on you. They could all be one in the same just God from a different perspective. It doesn't really matter.
Totally agree...

Actually...my guess is that everyone arguing and crying in the thread agrees with you...they just can't admit that they do.

Oh mighty Ruth...I come to you today on my knees begging forgiveness...

Hmmm...I think that name could work!

But the belief in the experience is not, in my opinion, the crux of the issue. The more relevant concern is the way that experience is shared and offered to others, particularly those who may disagree with your beliefs (of which there are millions of people, from Atheists to Hinduists). Who is right and who is wrong? None of us can say. Would you tell a Jew or a Buddhist that they're wrong and you feel sorry for them?
I would tell an atheist that he is wrong. But I wouldn't tell a Jew or a Hinduist that they are wrong. I know my way is right. But I don't know with certainty that other religions are wrong. I don't know enough about God's ways to say that he hasn't communicated with other races/peoples in a different manner than he has communicated with Christians. In fact, it makes sense that he would communicate with other peoples and races, aside from Jews and Christians. That, and I can point to places in the bible that more or less say that it's none of our business as to how God treats other people. The book of Jonah is one example.

My own particular belief system is fairly open minded.

GSG. Always pussywhipped. Even on the Sabbath.

Here's where you're coming across as holier-than-thou. You absolutely do not know atheists are wrong and that you are right - you can believe it however.

My own particular belief system is fairly open minded.
When you start from the position that you're already right, that's the opposite of being open-minded.

If you met God in person and he demonstrated he was God, would you say that you say you *know* he exists? Well, being imbued with the Holy Spirit isn't quite the same as meeting God in person. But it's a step in that direction. If you'd been in my shoes and had the experience I pointed to about twenty posts above then I suspect you would feel the same way I do. LINK

^That's really hard to say for sure NUance. People generally find the answer they were looking for because it's the answer they wanted. I can understand if it's coming from a place of compassion not wanting people to go to hell or hoping it'll make people's lives better in some way, but it comes off as hypocritical.

Philosophy professor in college replaced "Proving the existence of God" with "Proving the existence of Moose" Same arguments just with out all the emotional drama.
