I mean, I've expressed my concern before about the politics spreading across the board, but the daily status updates with people taking shots is getting ridiculous.

I am on the fence with Dewiz. I will say I do not care for the low content, snarky way Dewiz shares his views, but I am not sure if he is trolling or just bad at conversation. We do have liberal-minded members who are quite outspoken on the board, and now, our conservative members (which Dewiz clearly belongs to) are really starting to bristle up in political conversations.

In fact, for a while there were a few members asking for a conservative only thread in the P&R forum, where liberal posts would be moderated. The running joke then became that it was ironic that snowflake conservatives were asking for a safe-space. Still, makes me wonder if this is Dewiz acting out or reacting to others.

ZRodYou're on a message board. You either are posting for conversation, or to troll. You've already said you're not posting for conversation.

You're opinio would be welcome if you could ever back it up. Instead at the slightest hint that you may not be right you resort to "snowflake", "you mad bro", and "triggered" something any teenage boy is capable of doing.

It is this recoiling by Dewiz that makes me wonder is he trolling or does he feel he will be steamrolled by joining the conversation? I guess when in boils down to it, he needs to just own his opinions and limit the snarky comments.

I agree with you guys! I think anti-Trump guys as well as alt-right can voice their opinions out in the open. Just take care not to start getting too abusive towards each other. I think some tit-for-tat is OK, but if it starts spilling over take it to the shed? I think he's doing something similar to what anti-Trump guys are doing, except he expects people to cheer him for it and that's just not going to happen in a community outside of the alt-right.

 
Let me weigh in as one of the non-political types on HB:

I dunno, but it seems like it's coming from both sides. Dewiz posted a status with CNN setting up an artificial news scene with mourners. Several posters criticized Dewiz for this. And then he made snarky remarks back at them. Not sure who is more at fault.

Anyway, I don't see what the harm is. I mean, you see some non-political HB posters complain about political statuses once in a while. But it's not like anyone is being forced to read them. I'd say, no harm no foul (to quote the great Chick Hearn). So there's that.

I know I've expressed concern about it before, and I'm hoping it's just offseason boredom, but the political talk/trolling is at it's peak since I've been here. Sometimes people just want a break from "real life" and IMO, sports is perfect for that.

In my humble opinion, once the media season/fall camp starts, we should consider tamping down on that stuff as people come back from the offseason slumber. This place is first and foremost about husker sports, and I'd hate to see people run off because of P&R talk driving people away.

 
I personally think the political talk should stay in that forum. This is a sports board, not a politics board, I'm sick of seeing it in the status updates every time I come on the board. Want to talk politics, fine, we've got a section of the board for that. And I'm sure someone can argue, "Well then the football talk needs to be in the football forum, not the status updates!" It's called huskerboard, not politicsboard...........

 
Not defending Dewiz in any way but there's a bunch of crap that's basically the same thing from the other side of the aisle in the responses to his current status update.

That's what makes it so hard to police - where do you draw the line?

But I'd agree with BRI that keeping it in the P&R forum is the way to go.

Maybe the red flag goes to the instigator, and everyone else gets a yellow. Personally, I don't mind the political conversation, but BRI has a point about the focus of the board may be being overshadowed a little at the moment.

 
That's what I've been saying for quite awhile. It's spreading across the board, and fights from the P&R forum flare up in the other ones. I know I'm not the only one who's tired of the daily politics shots in the status updates.
