BillMoos / Doxxing

As a follow up, in the future, when we see something like this, I feel that it's prudent that we immediately hide the post, then begin the discussion/investigation to see what's going on. In my opinion, we have to ensure the privacy and trust of our members, and having someone pull a stunt like this should be an immediate cause for a temp suspension at the very least.

Completely agree.

Should we add this to the board rules? It feels like something that should go without saying but it seems fairly pertinent.

Yeah, it's not a bad idea. Of course, we gotta find the board rules and figure out where to post them on the new board first, lol.

Yeah, that's where my hesitation was as well.  Not that the board rules should have to be exhaustive but it wasn't in there so I wasn't sure what to think.

I did hide the post right away.

To find the Rules, I've just been going into the Board Rules thread in Board Feedback.  I haven't found a good way to have them display somewhere else yet.

Yeah, I agree that we should have to put that up there, because it's common sense. That said, you have people who are so literal about the written rules (hello Landlord) that it probably needs to be there.

Maybe if we need a stopgap solution, we post an "Updated Board Rules" thread and lock it in the Board Feedback subforum?

So ..... um........

I don't think it was intentional but ..... and given his history ....... and what else just went on ...........

I think hiding that was the right call. Doesn't look like it was done with malice like BillMoos.

Now that this has become a bit of an issue, I think finding the Board Rules, updating them and drawing specific attention to doxxing is a high priority. If Landlord wants to post his own Twitter handle with this face/name that would be his prerogative, of course. I don't think other members should do it for them.

Here's my first stab at a rule addition if we wanted to add it. Feel free to tear it up and make any suggestions/edits:

Do not publish personal information about or 'dox' another member.  This is an anonymous message board which means we have a responsibility to ensure the privacy and trust of its members. Sharing another member's name, address, phone number or other personal information on the forums without the express permission of that member will not be tolerated.

I think the difference in the two situations is that Landlord has been pretty forward about using real name, posting links to videos he's done, and his twitter posts a few times.

Agreed. If a member chooses to do that then we should probably leave them to their own devices. And if a member routinely opens the doorway like that, as Landlord has done, we can't really fault another member for saying/using their real name.

I think, as with other board rules, we give ourselves some interpretation wiggle room. StPaul posting James' tweet is probably a non-issue. BillMoos' choice not so much.
