Diaco sounding off against Rugby Tackling

Diaco had some choice words about the rugby-style tackling that was used by Banker, and Banker is pretty pissed off about it.

Diaco said that the rugby tackling was mandated by administration above Riley, and they brought in the consultants to implement it last year, and the players didn’t like it. Banker responded that the players were tackling much better in 2016, and that the only time they didn’t use it in practices was the bowl game practices, and that was a big reason the D sucked in that game.

Someone can throw in a link to the OWH practice report, which details it in there. It sounds like things are becoming pretty disfuncational under Riley, and the assistant coaches are throwing numerous people under the bus. Is Billy Devaney the admin that Diaco is referring to or is it Eichorst?  Either way, Riley should be running his own team, not taking orders from others.

No pressure - soft coverage Dicrapo is going to have a hard time finding a job after this season.  If you can't improve tackling with premier level athletes in 8 months then you're not worth $800, let alone $800K.

Happy Trails Bob!

I think Diaco needs to remember the old "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"......

It would appear that some on the staff have been playing with the magic 8-ball and asking "will we all be gone at the end of the year" and the all knowing 8-ball says "all signs point to yes".  Thus staff is unraveling and throwing each other under the bus.  New rumors coming out about the dysfunction etc......Time to go fellas.  Coach and move on with dignity.

Most of the Omaha media speculated that Bobby D wanted to go off on other aspects of the team, rather than his D, but decided to hold back. For instance, his D was playing well against Purdue until the stopped 4th down gave Purdue the short field on their first TD. Then NU should have gone up by 2 scores in the 2nd half last week, but the offense could never do it.

Not saying that the D played well in either of the last 2 games, just trying to see things from Bobby D’s point of view.

I’m really getting the feeling there may have been some substance to the rumor awhile back that Diaco has not been impressed with Riley and has been undermining him behind the scenes. Problem is whether he is right or wrong it is a huge problem in a team environment. This whole clown show can’t leave Lincoln fast enough.
