***2018 Recruiting***

Of the ten kids who are still somewhat in the picture for the Huskers, are there even 6 that are seriously considering us today.  I know many have CB's for us but most of those were issued days or weeks ago and the outlook seems to have changed.  We might have a tough time filling this class out with the quality we want.

We currently have 20 commits plus two transfers.  We can sign 22 but might get 23/24 commits depending on whether Mapieu and Smith actually sign.  Sounding like Mapieu will not sign.   Smith sure indicates that he will be signing.  23 seems most likely right now with Mapieu not signing but (probably) still showing up later.

  • One OL: Bell -> Lawrence
  • One OLB: JJB ->  Baldonado
  • One RB: Washington or bust
  • Maybe one more DB: Palmer back in the picture -> Taylor -> Torain
  • Tago an option but not a priority (IMO)
  • We'd be open to adding another WR but probably only if we miss out on other spots: Hunt -> Hall
  • Maybe Ogbonnia at DT if we miss at a couple spots

If Mapieu “shows up later” and we sign 23, we would need to have one leave before April, right????  Unless he would walk on or greyshirt????

I don't think we'd have to have people leave at least before June and maybe August - I'm not 100% sure how the wording works.

We'd actually have to have four "leave" because that would mean we'd over-sign by three plus Mapieu.  But yes, he could walk-on.  I saw something that seemed to indicate grey-shirts weren't allowed by the B1G but I'm not sure how that works.

I was thinking the opposite. It looks to me like the staff is pretty clear on what positions we want to close out the class and even have back up plans in place. Looks like we have more people that want in than we can take.

RB- Washington is choice A, Corbin B (but maybe not interested), Henry B and looks to be a lock if we let him.

OLB/ DE- JJB and or Tannor are both A's. Baldonado is B

OL- I think Bell commits soon with Hall, McDonald and Sampson as backup plans. Can we take more than 1?

S- Cam Jones seems in but it is weird to me he hasn't committed yet. Is there another safety we want?

CB- Palmer is A, we have a bunch of guys as backup if we can't get him.

WR- rumors we want another and Nikko Hall is A, seems to be plenty of plan B's here as well.

Tago is kind of a wild card here. If we can get Thompson to visit that would be interesting as well.

I've only seen one 'offer' that looked like a reach to me. The others are 4 *'s, solid 3 *'s. Maybe the words 'quality we want' is where there is room for debate?

But....this is why I’m confused. We can only oversign by 3. So, if smith signs and we sign a total of 23, I’m failing to see how he can “show up later” unless he walks on.

So is Indepence CC the site for Last Chance U this year then? I thought what I read said he is going to be on that show when it airs.
Ok. I think I figured it out but it might be wrong. He played for Arizona Western last year, then transferred to Independence CC for whatever reason. So he may have been on last chance you for Arizona Western.

If this guy wants to be on the team it would be as a walk-on. He went 6-12 from field goals and 27-33 on extra points. That does not scream scholarship player to me.

I’ll take it, but most of you will remember that this is where Riley’s class was Elite. I believe by average we had it at around 12th at one point.

Not in anyway trying to gear any conversation against Frost or for Riley, just providing some context to that ranking.
Your "context" is nothing but leading. Frost has had 2 months total, and he coached and won a bowl game during that time also.  Riley had 2.5 years at that point.  How can you remotely compare the two?

Let's talk in a year.

My prediction is probably not as dire as I thought.  My fear is that we are the 2nd or 3 choice for many of those top players.

RB:  I suspect Washington will go to OSU if they have room. I wouldn't put it beyond Urb to grab him and stash him for a few years then let him transfer to any school but BIG 10.  If not Washington,  Henry probably is N.

OLB/DE:  Again I think JJB's first choice is OSU but same thoughts as above.  Tanner seems excited about Fla.

OL: Bell is probably N.  Hall and Sampson seem like a lean elsewhere.

S:  C Jones is probably N.

CB:  Palmer seems like a Clemson or N Caro St lean.

WR:  Nikko likes USC if they have room otherwise we could get him.  We'll see.

QB:  Tago is a possibility for 3 schools with N being one.  He says now is is willing to play LB and we are the only school recruiting him for QB.

I am as excited as can be for Frost and co and what they will accomplish.  I don't know if he yet has enough currency to pull kids out of their geographical location if the current big name programs like OSU, Fla, Clemson and USC want them.  All remaining spots will be filled no doubt with quality kids.  GBR.

If 4-5 guys leave after the semester there will be scholarships open.
Pardon me....I don’t mean to be difficult with this. But....correct me if I’m wrong...he would have to sign by April and that’s before these guys would leave “after the semester”.

But...it would put us above the 3 extra allowed.

Look at the guys Riley had committed? The average was .90. Those were all Elite players. Watch what they do the next few years. I like how you’re bringing up bowl success? This is recruiting I’m talking about. Wake up.

My only leading is to lead y’all to understand that by “star” rating, Riley was doing a very nice job recruiting. Not to take anything away from Frost at all. If you’ve been paying attention at all, I called the Frost shot in September, so it’s not that I am a Riley lover AND Frost Hater. But some folks are pulling the wool over some eyes.

FROST is doing a spectacular job, but it doesn’t mean Riley wasnt. I’m talking about recruiting not on field success.

LASTLY, I fully expect Frost to outdue Riley by miles and miles, but that DOES NOT mean Riley and Co. were doing a bad job recruiting.
