Are you talking about a simple pinned thread or a website. I vote for a website. I don't care what the websites name is, of course something related, but we could have that flashing on the top. We don't need to have buisnesses pay, let's just gather a list and plot/list them and before to long we'll have hotels and the such contacting us to put there name on it.
I would think the best way would be a single web page, with a link to it at the top. Any number of us can create it and update it - the problem is getting the information together as to the "top spots". I think it can be dividied into the following sections:
Hotels/Motels - Names, locations, amenities
Resturants - Names, locations, type of food, amenities
Bars - Names, locations, unique features, amenities
Sites of Interest - Places you would recommend to a visitor. I'm not necessarily talking about the stadium, but places in Lincoln that might be of interest to a visitor.
Directions on driving into Lincoln from various major highways.
A map or a link to a map of Lincoln.
All of this could be in a narrative format. We could either hyperlink each named location to that location's web site (assuming they have one) or we can simply list the information about each in the narrative; there are a number of ways to do it, but the general tone would be along the lines of, "If your friend was coming to a game, and had never been to Lincoln, how would you describe the experience - how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, where to drink, where to visit?" That kind of thing. A good example would be the
Lincoln Chamber of Commerce web site - it's also a good place to get information.
I don't mind doing a mock up from which we can start, but what we really need is for every Admin and Mod that is familiar with Lincoln and with the game experience to post a description - again, the "how you get here, where to stay, where to eat, where to drink, where to visit" kind of thing. If you wanted your friend to have the ultimate Husker game experience, how would you describe it?
