Mo Washington Spill-Over Thread

If he sent that text as reported (again, we haven't heard his side of the story yet), then I think he should be kicked off the team and be allowed a second chance elsewhere.

Even if he's given diversion and probation?

And does this policy stand for every player who gets pre-trial diversion? Every player on probation?

Those really don't make your argument for you. I dunno what happened with Hill, but the others are all examples of incredibly stupid reasons for being kicked off the team. Just because someone gets kicked off a football team for picking their nose, doesn't mean it makes sense for Nebraska to kick any player who does anything worse than picking their nose off the team.

Tt really isn't fair for anyone to tell anyone else what would/would not ruin their life.  We toss that around so freely and I really don't understand why.  Just because not being on the team doesn't seem like a big deal to you doesn't mean it is not to someone else.

I worked with a guy, great guy that loved his job and loved coaching.  Well after about 35 years he lost that job and yes he is still alive but trust me when I say that he is not the same.

And kick him off the team so he can have a second chance on another team, I guess I don't get that, why?  I could understand if he did something to a teammate or a coach but this literally has nothing to do with UNL or the team, so, if he gets a second chance why not have that second chance be at UNL?

What if what he did ruined that girl's life? Just because what happened doesn't seem like a big deal to you doesn't mean it is not to her.

Because I think what he allegedly did deserves a punishment fitting of getting kicked off the team but is not so bad that he shouldn't get another chance if another team wants to give it to him. I'm open to other ideas of what a fitting punishment would be.

It shows that players get kicked off of teams for lesser things and even things that have nothing to do with the legal system. Recent Nebraska players kicked off the team were Suttles and Brown, which I don't think was reported to police but was handled by the coaches/school.

Eye for an eye justice?

I am 100% for that, I did not think you were.  I think if you kill...you should be killed...if you rape...you should be raped.  I guess we agree on something!

I will say this (as a coach, a pretty bad one) sometimes we are happy to kick dudes off our teams and when they give us an opening, even a small one, we take it.  Happens all the time.

Two seasons ago we helped a player realize that he would be much better as a team manager!  I think we pretty much saved his life on that one...lord knows his mother appreciated it!

The crime he's accused of committing happened before he was even officially enrolled at UNL, so I guess I'm not sure I fully understand why he would need to be kicked out of NU but literally every other team can go after him if they want (which they would). That doesn't make sense to me.

I can respect your personal feelings in regards to what he did and how serious they are, so don't get me wrong there. I guess I just have a fundamental difference of opinion as to what he's accused of doing and what the punishment would be.

This would be a lot nicer if our justice system wasn't so slow. I think I'm going to have to remove myself from these conversations because this could take weeks if not months to sort out. I'll end up saying the same stuff over and over again without any more to go on.

Things I don't know about this case;

Was the girl actually sexually assaulted or was that just a story when a video got out?

Did the 2 kids she accused get any punishment whatsoever or was the assault case found totally lacking any evidence?

If he did send the video, did he have any idea that it was claimed as sexual assault by the girl?

Did she cheat on him to cause their breakup or was she possibly the hoe he supposedly said she was?

Those are some of the things I'd like to know before deciding how terrible his actions may or may not have been. It would only take 1 or 2 of them for me to quit giving him the benefit of the doubt. But if all of them fell in his favor, I'd have trouble thinking it was very bad at all. I haven't read every linked article completely. What am I missing?

There are a few that have been answered.

The sexual assault accusation did not happen until 2018 or 2019. The video was sent to the high school kids in 2016, or whatever year the incident happened - a couple years ago.
The 2 boys and the girl got kicked out of the school. Which lends credence to the idea that the people who watched the video thought it was consensual. One of the boys was given a misdemeanor for revenge porn... I think that was the thing he was charged with.

The 3rd question is probably the most important and we don't know.

That's not at all what I said. And I'm not sure how he should be self-porn-tape harassed in return, but I'm against that brand of punishment.

I guess it comes down to whether you think it's not even worth any consequences for someone if that person can then get a second chance.

I don't think we all have to agree about the severity of what he did or the severity of any consequences.
