I must admit I find it comical that we have some little birdies who are private messaging @MNBigRedNorth with messages of support for his opinions.

To said birdies: I wonder if you recognize that MN personally attacked board members twice? Both of the posts are in Offending Posts if you don't believe me. He has now had to answer for those two attacks and somehow it's getting twisted into an attack on one's "free speech." Utterly fascinating. The lack of personal accountability here is almost laughable.

For the record, someone who took it too far against MN was also penalized, so nobody's "free speech" is being targeted. Free speech does not give anyone the right to disrespect other people on Huskerboard. And if your strategy is to join Huskerboard and immediately start ruffling feathers in P&R, good luck to you.

Free speech doesn’t exist on a private message board. People can be silenced for any or no reason.

This really ins't any different than the person(s) you've discussed who anonymously +1 posts in P&R without taking part in the actual discussion.

fwiw.....what he said to me is probably exactly how everyone talks in the far right wing echo chamber he always quotes as proof in the PR forum and it just flows without thought over here.  if we don't blindly heil trump we must be #$%@&% liberals

I got a huge kick out of the descriptor that we're all under 40 male-haters, or whatever that was. I spend five years asking people to let the "knapp is old" joke die and here this guy comes along and accuses me (us) of being super young.

I got a little PO’d at him questioning my upbringing. I guess it’s kinda like a yo mama joke. 

It was also stupid because my parent was/is Republican. I’ve literally never had anyone in my life trying to influence me so I’d become a Democrat or vote Democrat.

I wonder what % of Republicans had parents who tried to hammer their political beliefs into them vs Democrats.

I don't think parents do so much "hammering" as immersing in the culture of the family. This is what the parents lead the family to do/think/believe because that's what the parents genuinely believe. It's less indoctrination and more rearing.

I was raised Republican/Christian, with love and the best of intentions from my parents. They didn't so much teach me things as model these things. We did things like going to church and bible study and voting, and they discussed who they were voting for and why, and because I respect my parents, I generally followed along with their thinking. I think that's how it is with most families. 

I've never been a Democrat, nor have I ever had the inclination to be one. I've been Republican a fair chunk of my life, then after Newt Gingrich took them sharply right, I left the party to continue on in my natural moderate ways.  I think that evolution is pretty common for most Independents - they start out as whatever party their parents affiliate with, then drift center when they realize the two-party system doesn't meet their interests.

 
It might just be me, but I have an incredibly difficult time giving benefit of the doubt to taking posters who only post in the P&R forum. Like @45timesbetterthanemptysuit; they've never posted in anything other than P&R, never interacted anywhere else on the board, which leads my first inclination to be "this is a sock for someone who either doesn't want their true feelings know, or just wants to troll".

I'd be shocked if he wasn't a sock. But it's been looked into before. 

Doesn't matter much if he's a sock or if he's for real - he's a zealot, and zealots aren't interested in truth. It's mildly amusing to poke holes in his falsehoods, but that's about it.

FWIW the issue is being discussed in the leadership forum (didn't want to make it seem like you were ignored or anything).

I tend to favor consistency when it comes to rule enforcement. What are the thoughts on @NM11046 currently having an anti-Trump-themed avatar? Another member (can't remember who now) once had a 45 with a cross going through it. NM's has been around for awhile and I haven't heard a complaint from anyone, yet Dewiz' avatar almost immediately drew negative reaction.

If one is a problem then shouldn't all of them be a problem?

Yes. I didn't realize NM's avatar was politically-themed. I've never read it. But yes, if we're supposed to be keeping political discussion in P&R, then avatars & Status Updates, even intentionally vague ones, should be kept free of it.
