Maurice Washington Faces Charges

Mo should not have suited up for the game. He should not play or be charged until his court hearings are over.
Thats a great way to handle it when his court date gets pushed back until after the season and then his charges dropped. I don't agree with the sitting him for a half, but I also don't agree with just keeping on the bench because we aren't sure. Either sit him a few games now and call it good or play him and sit him after the court makes a decision. Those are the options besides kicking him off the squad, and that isn't happening at this point.

So there won't be anymore punishment for Mo internally? Does that mean that the administration anticipates that the charges will be dropped? Guess we'll know more by tomorrow.

It sure seems that way. As bad as our offense looked, I wish we would hold him out a few games if that is gonna be it.

Do we know if the half-game suspension was for this legal issue or the drug paraphernalia?

Also, how old was Maurice when all of this took place?  Sorry, I'm not clear on all the details.

ETA:  Nevermind.  I found the timeline.

I think his first half suspension is due to everything involved with him in the offseason. The incident took place in the winter/spring of 2018, so it was while he was still in high school. The girl in the video was under 18, so that’s why it’s being construed as child pornography by California.

Seems like their hand was forced and Mo was going to be used in case of an emergency. Unfortunately the score was too close and we couldn't run the ball, HCSF may not have had much of a choice. Too many young unproven guys behind Mills/Washington, which is probably why Mazour was used.

I'm wondering if the MJ incident didn't happen with Mo, this would already be over. I understand that's an entirely separate issue but, that definitely didn't help his case.

He won't be punished further until everything is settled, if need be. Obviously if the charges are dropped, there won't be further punishment, but the way Frost made it sound was this wasn't necessarily the end of it.

The decision was to “suspend” Mo the first half of the game. I think Frost would have played Mo in the second half, regardless of what the status of the games was.

Also, I think marijuana citation was dropped and it has no bearing of the current legal situation in California. It sounds like Santa Clara County courts are the group causing the delay on this. There is another hearing or meeting tomorrow, so hopefully we will know more then.
