Maurice Washington Faces Charges

Do you think what he did was awful?  What is the appropriate punishment, outside of anything from the courts?

Interested in hearing what a few people say to this.

I think those who believe what he did wasn't awful will remain mostly silent.

I think what he did most likely was not very nice at all. Depending on the circumstances, which none of us are privy to, that awfulness could range from it being an immature bad idea to he has not one decent bone in his body.

The thing that gets me is a lot of people assume he thought what he sent her was a video of her own sexual assault. I have yet to see evidence he had any inclination to think that video was of an actual sexual assault. Considering the two males involved in the act with his former girlfriend only received probation, that leads me to believe people who know a lot more facts about this case than we do also didn’t think it was a case of sexual assault. I mean I don’t think many cases of actual sexual assault are resolved with probation. So, if it wasn’t sexual assault, then the next best scenario I can imagine is it was consensual on the girls part....until her parents and everyone in the school found out about it and THEN it was claimed to be non-consensual.

Now, if Mo had reason to think this former girlfriend agreed to a threesome and then he threw that back in her face at a later date....Well it’s not a very nice thing to do but I’m not sure it qualifies as a reason to ruin his future before it is settled in court. And honestly, in this situation, I think charges of child pornography are utterly ridiculous. That’s what I think and I’m perfectly content to let it be settled in court, with facts and proof, before I condemn the kid. It hasn’t got jack sh#t to do with my fandom of Husker football or thinking his playing may help us win a game. And not that it would change my stance but I don’t think he is that kind of a difference maker anyway. I just think it’s the fair and right way to handle it in this situation.

@knapplc I had forgotten the details, thanks for clearing that up. But like you said, unwise but not heinous to keep the video most likely. I agree with everything you said. @CapoValley I understand where you are coming from. It gives people the opportunity to talk bad about Frost and Nebraska. I think what RedDenver suggested would have been the best course of action in my mind. Issue a multigame suspension because of this incident then reserve the right to punish further if new information comes to light.

@4skers89 that is exactly how I see it. Seems like common sense to me but I understand the courts complicate the matter.

Severe and Benning gave a rough summary of the text messages between Mo and the girl.  Mo and the girl used to date when he lived in California.  She texted him in Spring 2018, congratulating him on signing with Nebraska and turning things around and heading to college.  Mo thought that she was being nice to him and texted something about hooking back up again.  She denied Mo's advances, Mo got mad, and texted the video of her sexual act.  Her parents then got involved and had her text to Mo to send the video again.  That's when Mo sent the video again, and her parents started working with the police and prosecutors.

Do you know if this is in some kind of public documentation? How was this account obtained?

In other words, that's exactly what I remember hearing on the interwebs originally but now I'm trying to understand the source of this info.

Mike'l Severe has seen the text transcripts and the video, and was discussing it with Benning on today's show.  Mike'l was able to see the transcripts from the California charges, as they were released to the OWH, and Severe read them when he worked there.

I'm going to say that an adult keeping a video on his phone of a 15 year old girl engaged in any kind of sexual act, consensual, coerced, or otherwise is pretty damn bad.  Even if that adult is 18 years old

DANG!!!! You sure you want to go out on that limb!?!?!?

I mean... who disagrees with that?

When he is 17 its not that bad but he better delete it on his 18th birthday or his an awful person. A child pornographer in fact. Please. It isn't right but stop with this. What he did is teenage stupidity not a heinous sexual act.

There is a logical reason for the 1st half suspension. While Mo is waiting for his legal proceedings to move forward, he has been advised to keep his nose clean. He did not. Bam - suspension.

Is that what happened? Who knows. But it's another logical explanation for what happened, and why the same didn't happen to the other weed dudes.
That's an excellent reason why the university failing to make a statement about the suspension is ham-fisted.

I was going to edit and say that the 3-4 game suspension could be increased based on the severity of the legal outcome for appearance sake.  Unfortunately, if too serious Frost may have no other choice than to kick Mo off the team.  I believe there is enough known about this case nobody would fault Frost for issuing what seems to be a reasonable punishment now.  It's possible that this case finishes in November at which point such a punishment would really hurt the team and I'm willing to bet money that Frost will not hesitate to do so and Mo will be missed when he is needed most.  If Frost was only concerned about winning games he would have issued a 3-4 game suspension now.

It's likely that there will be no true trial or judgement until 2020, which will be well after this season is complete.

So if a minor gets nudes at age 17 and later breaks up with that person while still 17 but still has the nudes on their phone when they turn 18, is that the same thing or different to you?
