Year 2 Regression Under Frost

2018: 4-8

2019: 5-7

"regression"

I am notoriously bad at math, but I don't think this is accurate.

Well depends on the simplistic nature one might assess an entire season.  Against common competition Nebraska actually lost by more points in 2019 vs 2018 if you want to compare apples to apples. Also the 2018 Nebraska team finished the season 4-2...the 2019 team finished the season 1-5.  One more data point...the 2019 team lost by more total points in 2019 than they did in 2018.

I guess by simply looking at wins and losses without context we can say Riley was a better coach than Frost because he had more wins his first 2 seasons?

They’re roughly equivalent through two years, imo. Frost has shown the potential for a higher ceiling, and overall is more competitive but has a terrible record of turning winnable games into losses. Riley won more of those games that he should have, but showed a very low ceiling.

As disappointing as I’ve been in Frost, and as much as not wanting to talk bad about him has kept me away, I still think we are better heading to Year 3 under him than Riley.

Definitely.  Riley inherited a roster that had won 28 games the three previous years. Frost inherited a team that had won 19 games.

The talent took a nose dive under Riley, and that's who Frost had to work with last year, then this year he's been building his young guys in.

We took 74 players to Maryland: 14 freshmen, 12 redshirt freshmen, 14 sophomores, 17 juniors, and 17 seniors.  That is a young team.

4-8 last year 5-7 this year. Where's the regression?

1. 35 points scored in 2018 against OSU and the BIG West vs 21 points a game scored in 2019.

2. Fewer overall points and touchdowns in 2019.

3. Finished 2018 with a 4-2 record...finished 2019 with a 1-5 record.

There were some marginal improvements but also some regression in key aspects of the game.  In 2018 we had Michigan and Michigan state on the schedule and in 2019 they were replaced with Indiana and Maryland.

I think everyone is hand wringing for no reason.

Let Frost recruit.  Let him get his recruits in the program.  Let them be seniors.

Then evaluate the program.  He needs at least 4 years to get this thing turned around.

Well by next year he will have had 3 seasons to instill his staff, system and recruits that should yield improvements on the field. We have already seen many of Riley recruits either leave the program or graduate and move on. Frost stated when he came here he expected Nebraska would be competing for championships sooner than later.  How soon did he mean?

He also didnt think we sucked this bad

Still have to flush the system and may take another year. Think herbal cleansing and not firehose colonic, it will take time.

Basically 3 games where I felt we just weren't on the level and 4 games were we just didn't get the job done and should/could have won. That is where improvements are needed.
