It has been discussed.  Where we are at the moment is it's pretty hard to get away from things with a political aspect right now.  So maybe we'll look the other way for a week or two while things are really crazy.

As long as they don't get out of hand and turn into a huge fight in the replies.

Not sure if that is right or wrong.  But things are just crazy right now.
IMO, that seems reasonable. There is quite a bit going on right now that has built-in political context. So, if it doesn’t turn into a complete sh#t sandwich, probably worth seeing if people can handle it maturely, or at least not like total dip wads.

That status from yesterday was pretty civil.

No one is claiming otherwise. I wanted to know if I can make political status updates without having them deleted or getting warned, since they were previously disallowed whether civil or not.

Given the climate of everything right now in the world, I can't see us deleting and/or warning someone for getting a little political in the status updates at the moment. It's a hard topic to shy away from or keep a lid on just because it's having such a pervasive impact on all of us.

I personally think it would still be a good idea to practice some good decorum with it, like we would any status update. If someone's just trying to be inflammatory or combative then that's not really productive. We also have some pretty good conversation happening in P&R right now anyways, so hopefully people will still look there as their primary source for those kinds of discussions/thoughts/opinions.

I can't believe there are still people out there stupid enough to think kneeling during the anthem means someone is anti soldier, or even has an issue with it at all considering the past week. Open your f#&%ing eyes. People tried to protest peacefully and you're still being a f#&%ing douche about it and not listening.

I will admit something here. When Kapernick first took a knee it didn’t terribly bother me but I thought it was mostly a publicity stunt and that it was a little disrespectful. Well, I totally get it now. Things have to change and our flag, our country do not deserve any respect until everyone can go about their lives being treated equally and without fear that the color of their skin could endanger their lives at the hands of those who are supposed to protect and serve all of us.

I fully appreciate the sacrifices so many in the military have made but this isn’t about them. At. All. I really haven’t felt very patriotic for at least the last 2-3 years. But that is more because of the clown in the WH and the rest of the clowns that are supposed to be representing us. Our government is out of control and our police system is out of control. I want to see BLM and I want our police to undergo significant change. And then I hope that change continues into our government, how people are elected, the sickening way that money and power buys favor and access, the way senators and representatives basically end up as untouchables and royalty but mostly the character of the people who represent us. There’s a bunch of sh#t that needs to change in this country before I will give the flag or anthem any respect again. And I will repeat, that in no way is a slight to the brave men and women of the military. If anything, it is in honor of their sacrifice.

I think a lot of people wanted an excuse not to listen. The flag and anthem represent the country on the whole to me. And Kaepernick has said some things I disagree with but the protest became bigger than him and people still should have listened to the point he was trying to make. If he didn't say it was about soldiers then it wasn't about soldiers.

And... kind of a segue, but our government killed members of our military by using Agent Orange during Vietnam even after being warned of the dangers. My dad was one of those people who may have died because of Agent Orange, but I didn't know that at the time Kaepernick started kneeling during the anthem. It just solidified for me that people shouldn't be offended by it. Hypothetically I could kneel during the anthem because I am against the fact our government did that during Vietnam, and it wouldn't mean I'm disrespecting common soldiers. It would actually be a show of support. People should not make wild assumptions by an action like that, they should listen to what the person says is the reason for the action. And it got a little annoying hearing people say it wasn't the time or the place; there's no point in protesting if you don't do it in a way that people are going to notice it.

I don't understand why people react so negatively to people saying there are problems in our country. People should be praised for questioning and critiquing the government, that's how you improve it. And it's really weird to me that a lot of people who are against big government get so defensive of the government when someone simply tries to tell them about these problems.
