Impeachment is not removal from office. Impeachment is a rebuke, a statement to a politician that they have not met the expectations of their office.
Think of impeachment as a write-up, but not a termination. It's a step toward termination, but it doesn't have to result in termination.

Exactly. This is a disingenuous narrative by detractors to minimize what happened in the wake of Trump's election loss.
It's not just about preventing him from running for office again. That's a punishment. Just like prison is a punishment for a murderer. But, you don't put a murderer on trial because you only want to send them to prison. You put them on trial because of their actions. That's analogous to what's happening here to Trump. He's not being impeached just to stop a future re-election. He's being impeached because of his actions. It's baffling, though unsurprising, that some people out there are trying to turn the narrative into something it isn't.
