Adrian Martinez

The real problem is that Frost and Verduzco believe they can make Adrian be a pocket passer when he clearly is the furthest from that. They have been trying and failing for three years now. At what point do they realize that doing the same exact crap and expecting different results is insanity?

We lost because our secondary - the strength and most experienced unit on defense - allowed their backup QB to carve them up like he's a NFL Hall of Famer.
He was 12/15 with 2 TD, but he only threw for 124 yards. He didn't really carve much of anything. Again defense was ok. Offense s#!t the bed, as has is tradition.

I’d bench him permanently and tell him his days as a quarterback at Nebraska are over and to immediately start taking reps at running back.

I also see a lack of arm strength. His final play on fourth down, he badly under threw the WR, I believe was Martin,  who got behind the Illinois’ DBs. There was touchdown right there if AM threw the ball right. But it is what it is.

The whole "let's drastically alter our QBs throwing motions" schtick of Verdu and Frost has ways been a head scratcher for me.  Clearly it not only doesn't improve things but makes them visibly worse.
yeah I never understood that either.  Maybe if a guy has problems with certain types of throws then yeah lets try to fix something.  They seem to have them throw with a low elbow  and it looks un-natural.  Hard to explain

He is an issue, but it's far down the list. Anybody who thinks we lost this game because of Adrian is insane.

We lost this game because our coaching staff doesn't belong on the sidelines of a P5 school.

We lost because our staff has yet to develop a offensive scheme that allows for a running back to be successful.

We lost because Adrian was pressured on 25% of his drop back passes.

We lost because the OLine could not win their run-blocking battles.

We lost because our secondary - the strength and most experienced unit on defense - allowed their backup QB to carve them up like he's a NFL Hall of Famer.

Adrian played poorly, but he's been asked to win games with little help from his teammates and with a coaching staff that is out of their depth even in a puddle.
I don’t agree.

Anyone who doesn’t think he was the biggest issue is insane.  It’s the most important position in sports and especially so in this type of offense.  He played terrible for 3 1/2 quarters. And gifted 7 points to Illini on a pure bonehead play that most  freshmen don’t make while taking at a minimum 4 points away because he couldn’t make a throw that most freshmen would make.

I think Frost has lost the locker room and he's not getting it back
This is definitely a possibility

QB play has been shown over and over again as an indication of win/loss.

Theres no way Frost can have the engagement of this team.  What can he possibly tell them?  What could he do to motivate them that he hasn’t done in 4 years?

Amart isn't close to the biggest issue. Don't confuse that with an argument that he's good, he was absolutely not good.

His head coach continues to call long developing passing routes despite his OLs inability to protect him, what is he supposed to do?

His coach has run concepts that doesn't allow for any semblance of a running attack to develop. It's pathetic.

His coach called numerous running plays down 14 with under 4 minutes left in the game.

The reason it's nice to place blame on Martinez is because it masks much bigger issues. The ineptitude by this coaching staff is far and away worse than Martinez missing throws.

Defense was the stronger unit, but still not good.

The 8 minute drive they allowed to open the second half was brutal. Brett Bielema had his way with Chins on that possession.

What is he supposed to do?  Well for starters he could find and throw to the open receivers that he had prior to 5-6 seconds elapsing while holding on to the ball looking at the line of scrimmage instead of his receivers :dunno  the next thing he could is hit the open receiver in the end zone for 6 points.   Another thing he could do is hit the RB in stride for a TD on a wheel route instead of a short lob the RB has to stop for.

Please please please- Martinez and Verduzco apologists, print this out and paste it on your wall.
