Thunderin' Bolts @ Purdue

So, listening to the game and watching live stats... 

Top of 2 (pitch count NU 17 16, PU 7)

Not sure why the boys think they need to swing at every first pitch.. they only made the purdue pitcher throw 7 pitches.. To me it's infuriating!!

Now, top of 2, little patience at the plate and they start with a 4 pitch, leadoff walk. Much better!!

Now bunt him to 2nd. Nope, fly out and no advancement.

Rocket through the infield by Fisher.. Runners on the corners - 1 out

bunt squeeze attempt, gabe tagged at home.. now runners on 1st and 2nd - 2 outs

base hit, 2 runs scored - double by Columbus - still 2 outs 

Mosely flys out

Clearly you're a fan of small ball and I get it, that's what I grew up on. But a sacrifice bunt with no outs and your 5 hitter up to bat just isn't the way to go.

I will give you that point though I'd have bunted him over. The bad of the inning was Gabe not staying on 3rd. Score would still be the same but Gabe should know better.

Gabe Swanson start the inning with a double - no outs (one hopped the wall)

Caren up next - single to center, runners on the corners - no outs mound visit from PU pitching coach

Fischer up - singles, rbi - runners on 1st and 2nd - no outs

Cary out failed bunt - 1 away

Colombus lined out - 2 away

Mozley hit into a FC, Fish out at 2nd - 3 away

but not surprising. Dang It!! So Disappointing!! So So Disappointing Indeed!!!

This team, like all our men's teams, just can't focus. There's zero winner instinct in our men's programs. Athlete plenty but winners few. Whatever happened to the type player that hates losing more than he enjoys winning?? Instead, it appears the athlete's (at least in the men's department of the the athletics) being recruited all grew up playing in programs that didn't keep score and everyone won something. That or their in it for their own glory and to heck with the team, the coachs, the fans.

Edit:

On a side note. I keep hearing Tom Hanks say "crying, there's no crying in baseball"
