Stadium Expansion

This picture just makes me in awe of the scale of this addition. I knew it was going to be pretty close to the loop and that was a good distance to cover but holy cow is this thing going to dwarf the original East stadium. The renderings just didn't do the scale justice, I'm more excited seeing the skeleton than I was looking at the drawings.

Thanks Kanpp and Corncraze for those of us who can't or are just to lazy to see it in person.

My question is what are they going to do with the football players statue? I think I saw on the proposal video that it would be on the inside of the addition. Is that right?

Yeah I think the plan is for a big open area right there where the statue will sit. So the statue will remain in almost the same location, but that location will be indoors now.

EDIT - here are my latest pics, from Friday. They have really moved quickly with the metal work, wrapping almost all the way around to the south. The pillars are going up for the arched entryway, and within a week they should have the skeleton of this thing done.

This shows the archway still open to view, but that will be closed up some (see the plans) in not very long.

An over view of the south side work. Terrible lighting for my camera.

You can see how far around they've come - they're nearly to the end of the frame work.

These workers are standing on what used to be the "Self-Guided Tour" spot, so that shows just how far along they are right now.

Bonus pic - this is the new hi/def screen at Haymarket Park. No idea what they're doing with the old one. They should put it in Bowlin, but I doubt they have the video capabilities over there.

No pictures of the Arena yesterday. I had a ton of errands to run and barely had time to get these pics. Maybe if I have a chance tomorrow, or if corncraze is in the area maybe he could get some.

Sorry, I won't be in Lincoln probably until the Spring Game, but I'll have plenty of photos for people then!

It doesn't seem like it will be a very open concept on the inside. Looks like the ceilings will be pretty low, not offering a grand concourse as in west stadium with the luxury suites expansion. Still will be much nicer though. And I guess things always appear a bit out of proportion during the construction process.

This is awesome. they were saying when they started this project that the whole outside should be done by fall and the in side should be done come the 2013 season. cant wait to see how fast this things moves during the summer. should be some exciting pics to come

Thanks for all the updates and pics guys. I can't wait to get back to Lincoln to see all the changes. They're going to be great.

I was there on Friday afternoon and Saturday. I was really impressed with how fast its going and the progress on the arena. Stayed in the Holiday Inn and was up on the 14th floor looking out toward the Haymarket and could really get a good look at things. Pretty exciting time for NU.
