Listen to books on tape about science while wearing blue blocker sunglasses. Blue/white light is bad at night and the soothing reader's voice will put you in a trance.
I fight this too. Maybe not to this extent. I feel for you man. I just can't get my brain to shut down...similar to True..did find stuff at GNC that seems to help a little
I don't drink pop, and I don't eat sweets except for once in a great while. I don't know what the hell causes it. I'm definitely no calorie watcher. I'm in pretty good shape, and feel healthy. I really think I have to attribute it to stress.
I battled insomnia for years and years. No matter how tired I was, I'd lay down and my mind would start racing. I have a prescription for Clonazepam, which is an anxiety med, which helps stop the racing brain syndrome and lets me go to sleep. I have a second prescription for Ambien, but I almost never take it. Ambien is lights-out. There's no debate or discussion - you're going to sleep. Clonazepam is much more gentle, and doesn't leave you with a hangover like Ambien can.
One thing that I've found - garlic ramps up my insomnia. If I have a heavy garlic meal for dinner, it's like drinking a strong cup of coffee. Garlic insomnia is rare, but look into it.
