You realize that UNL is a taxpayer funded state school, right? Every dollar that goes to Bo isn't available for something more worthy. That's how it works.
People wanted Bo fired, understood that he would be owed the rest of his contract, yet still complain about the payment of said contract. I don't get it.
I guess most people thought he was employable. You know, won 9 games per year and all. People were surprised when he opted not to take a comparable job, and instead mooch off the University. btw, I was one of the very few people who didn't call for Bo to be fired last season.
And just because our athletic dept is one of the few in the nation in the black doesn't mean it's okay to go out and blow five million dollars. That's the sort of thinking that created the largest national debt in the history of the world in our country.
I don't hold any grudges for Bo taking the YSU job. He can get out of the craziness of a big-time college football program, and provide some stability for his kids. I know he may not last long at YSU, but the constant chatter about his buyout gets old to me.
The athletic department only netted 3.8 million last year, that includes the football revenue. The football revenue is used to fund other sports at Nebraska. You add another 5 mil/yr onto the bill and see how well things turn out. We do not have unlimited cash like some think we do.
Bo is being paid $128K/month, so that comes out to $1.536M. Eichorst said that payment is coming out of existing surplus funds, so it doesn't cut into that $3.8M net.
