Listen to what Google Maps tells you.

Also, if you stop in St. Louis take your kids to the City Museum. You won't regret it.

Thanks for the tip on St. Louis, my guess is Google Maps will take me onto the bypass around Atlanta with the bridge being down. The problem with that is I've heard that's mainly for heavy truck traffic and is a nightmare as well.

If I was doing a cruise I would take a boat.

Looks like you're aware of the bridge situation in Atlanta. Avoid that area as much as possible. Traffic is rerouted and will be pretty grim.

I would also factor in what time you are planning on hitting Atlanta? If its at a off peak time then I am guessing the slow down will be minimal.

Quickly looking at a map, it looks like the bridge being down mostly effects traffic from the NE. 285 going around downtown should be ok, maybe a bit more traffic. Or you could bypass 285 at Marietta and join back on at College Park.

Probably shouldn't drink and drive...

Lol, thanks for the responses swmohusker and Z. If we leave here at 5am on Friday morning we should hit ATL at around 8pm. The other route through Birmingham adds an hour and a half to our trip. But I've heard people say they've been stuck in ATL for hours before so it could be a wash. I'd much rather be moving south than sitting in traffic. Thanks for the help.
