Knapp - the reason I said NPR is because that is where the comment originated this weekend. The lady baited him and was so upset he used the qualifier "female." It is a bit ridiculous, all the media crucifying him, yet when he questions anyone that knows tennis, they don't respond. In those instances, the silence shows they are in agreement with him. I don't think he is the least bit wrong.
I heard a transcript of the interview. Sounds like NPR baited McEnroe into making the comments. But, the thing is the comments are correct, Serena wouldn't be able to compete with any decent male tennis player. She would be the first to say it.
I don't know why it's hard for some people to think that it's ok to admit that men have physical advantages over women and that there is a reason why men and women don't compete against each other in sports.
Again, McEnroe doesn't need "baiting." He's like Trump - you put a microphone in front of him and he's going to say something outlandish, every single time.
I disagree with you knapplc in this instance. Yes, Johnny Mac can be very inflammatory on his own, but the NPR chicks went on and on about specifying his opinion about Serena as "the best woman's player ever".
Ticket is hands down the best station out there. Power'T, I think this might turn into a men vs. women thing, and quite honestly they aren't thinking fully when they argue a female athlete is not as good as a male athlete. The two are built completely different. It isn't like he was saying women are inferior from an intelligence standpoint.
Those are not "baiting" questions. It's a dumb premise (that Williams would be remotely ranked on the men's circuit) but her questions weren't baiting and his answers were reasonable and accurate.
