I got an Echo Dot for Christmas from my gf's parents. We liked it so much we bought a the regular Echo a few months later. We use them all the damn time lol
Once I figure it out I'll most likely use it all of the time as well. I needed a new bluetooth speaker as I blew the speaker in my other one. It was half price and cheaper than the speakers I wanted so it was a no brainer with the functionality it has.
The daily news briefings are also pretty cool in the morning. I like to use mine for that. I believe the default is NPR but Omaha.com now has an Echo skill that plays the top 5 headlines in Omaha as opposed to from NPR.
knapp, you can use if for general questions about things, to give you daily news briefings, check the weather, create shopping lists for you, look stuff up on the internet, pretty much anything.
I know this older, not very computer literate guy who got the Google version of this. He's convinced that there are truckloads of information inside that little magic box. I'm not sure he realizes that it just goes to the Internet to find his answers. It's kinda funny.
My gf uses it a ton when she's cooking: listening to music, setting multiple timers, etc. They have games on there, news, weather, sports, shopping lists, check on your Amazon orders, etc. We have one our main lights hooked up to it, so if you have your hands full you can tell Alexa to turn them on.
^^Reminds me of @oldmansearch twitter account. Some dude claims he taught his 83-year-old dad that Twitter is how you search for things on Google. Probably not true, but the searches are hilarious.
