I'm stunned this is on the verge of passing. Going to have to read up more on it. I've been contemplating starting one next fall, but I think only current students would be grandfathered in. Regardless, it's a sweeping tragedy that will affect far more people than me. And not even those students who will be turned away, as you point out, Sea of Red. Why on *earth* would we desire to waylay American research and academia? It is one of our strengths, our treasures.
^^^^Never mind. I assumed med students were forgiven tuition to work residencies and were given a stipend. It appears that there is no tuition for residency and it is an actual paying job. Any doctors on here want to confirm this? Thanks.
The funding structure for higher education is messed up already. Just throw another log on to the fire. Even with this tax break it was always stacked up against the poor.
@jaws I agree. My debt is a little silly, but was the only way I could get to school. My fiance is getting the same degree comes from a different background and will walk away debt free. Difference in our month to month life ~800 dollars of loan repayment for me. 0 for her.
