My only response to that 1 second call is whether the officials and/or the league office would have made the same call if the situation was reversed and Nebraska was on offense.
I looked at the clock when the ball hit the railing and saw one second. I knew they were going to put one second back on the clock. Just like they put on second back on the clock at the end of the 1994 Orange Bowl.
I guess I'm not saying it was the wrong call. What the Orange Bowl officials decided would have been the same for either team. I have my doubts about the Big 12 however.
I get having doubts, but it is what it is, it was the right call. The thing that really irks me is that there have been a number of games since (in various conferences) where time should have been put on the clock at the end of the game, but it doesn't happen.
The 1 second is irrelevant and always will be. It's the 7 points gifted to Texas even though Colt Mccoy was a yard short of the goal line when he "scored". Dude was laying flat stomach on the ground when he reached the ball across.
As great as Suh and the d-line were, I always loved the secondary from that '09 team. Gomes, Hagg, Dennard, Akumara, and O'Hanlon were so much fun to watch. They played that matchup zone defense so well. Of course, it helps when the QB doesn't have much time to throw, but that secondary was so menacing the 2nd half of that season.
