Colorado is gorgeous and you can't go wrong just about anywhere you go.
If I had my choice, I'd live in the Bay Area, on the peninsula. But cost of living is absurd, which is why we left.
Nebraska is nice, especially in one of the smaller communities not too far from Omaha or Lincoln. You have crappy summers, but winters are getting milder and nine months out of the year it's pretty great.
Assuming everything is equal for cost of living I'd probably go with Lake Tahoe (Nevada side of course for tax purposes) or the Pacific NW (I'm fine with rain over snow). Hard to argue with Colorado too.
After UNL I lived in LA for a few years, then in Washington D.C. for a few years. Got tired of the hassle, crime and high costs of big city living. With my job I can live anywhere. After some research and exploration visits I moved to a sleepy little river town on the mighty Mississippi. It's a good place to live. By "little" town, I mean ~50k. The only thing it lacks that I miss from the big city is a world class hospital and really good bookstore.
