Area of a rectangle = w x h.  Hence, 12.25 > 12

Think about it like laying down .5 x.5 squares. 3.5 x 3.5 would equal 7 x 7 (or 49 squares). 3 x 4 would equal 6 x 8 (or 48 squares).

Wait....why are you dealing with foreign meter dimensions? This must be a trick question since it's not in feet and inches.

Think of it as taking a square and slowly squishing it. The area inside keeps getting smaller and smaller until it is eventually gone.  A 5 x 5 square would turn in to a 4 x 6 and then a 3 x 7 and so on.

It’s really simple. 3.5x3.5=12.25 whereas 3x4=12. Not sure why it should seem any different. But seriously, why in meters?
