I'm coming up on my 11th "anniversary" at my current job

Was at a place for 15-16 years and then my job (like 90% of my colleagues, 90% of the knowledge) was given to an Indian company with a proven track record of not fulfilling their contractural obligations.  Since that time, 3rd job in 5 years.

Over 20 years at my current but I own/run the place so......

Prior to that was about 10 years. That was one employer but in 2 or 3 different capacities so not really the same “job”.

15 years at this job and with my own welding shop at home, I'm seriously considering giving it up doing something different. Burned out

@man eating mastodonDo you get a ton of side jobs with welding?  Also, probably a stupid question but is it easy to spot someone that is like a master welder when you see their work?

Teaching at the current school since 2001 - which is more than twice my next longest tenure.  @teachercd I will see your worst boss and raise you the worst principal and superintendent ever.

Wait...  @huKSer was the principal a Ridder?

@teachercd it wasn't terribly difficult, actually it was pretty easy the way it happened. My previous employer was owned by a large conglomerate and they began divesting non-core businesses (and we were non-core). So me and another guy just started back up doing what we were doing, bought a few key pieces of equipment at their auction and we already had quite a few good customers so sales weren't a problem.  The thing that made it easy was we got a 3rd partner who was a brilliant business guy (former banker) and he took care of all the "business" bs those first few years. Then he wanted out so we bought him out then a few years ago I bought out the other partner and now it's mine.

No.

Principal berated everyone on staff (except for "his boys"), yelled at the other admins, ran off teachers who would not kiss his a$$ the very first year at their next job were named the school district's teacher of the year,  had many union complaints and at a court hearing on one of these admitted he couldn't read.

Superintendent harbored a child molester on staff and called the school board president stupid c*** within earshot of her.

What does your original partner do now that you bought him out?  Do you still "work" or is it more just come and go as you please?

@huKSer The "you must kiss my a$$ bit" is sooooooo annoying.  It is also the same reason that I have shell-shock and have not said a word in a meeting for the last 10 years.  I even won a free day off last year and was scared to use it because of my experience with my old boss.

@teachercd ha ha....come and go as I please, riiiight. I had more time off when I worked for somebody else. Seriously.  I mean the good thing is when I need a day or two or half a day off I don't have to ask anyone or use "vacation" but it has been over 3 years, probably 4 or 5, since I took a legitimate vacation of more than 2 or 3 days in a row.

@teachercd ,yes I can usually stay as busy as I want side job wise,I've slowed it down a bit over the last few years so I could actually live a little, as far as master welder,I'm not one of them! Everything I do is mig and stick a great welder is imo proficient in every form.Im sure @JJ Husker will tell you the same ,when see or buy a welded product im definitely critiquing it!

You guys don't have the same wanderlust/impatience that my wife and I do. Since graduating from college, I've had jobs for 5 years, 5 years, 2 years, 4 years, and now in my second year at my current job. Always left on my own terms though, and have never burned a bridge.
