My lasting memory of Mike Riley is sitting with him just chit-chatting about everyday things like he was some regular-schmegular dude at a local coffee shop on a few occasions. He remembered our names. If you didn't know he was a major college football coach, you wouldn't know.
And Mrs. Mike Riley is a lovely, super-nice, super unassuming lady with a charming genteel southern accent. Once when she was getting coffee on a random weekday morning without Mike around, she seemed genuinely surprised that we would know who she is. And she was super nice and sat and talked about regular mundane things.
I don't like how the Mike Riley era turned out at Nebraska. But they were (and probably still are) such wonderful people.
