In 2015, Nebraska lost 5 of their 7 games in Riley's first year by 5 points or fewer and none by more than 10.

Just a matter of time until we're in the Cheez-It Bowl

I chalk up at least half of those to mental fortitude and culture. I mean you're going to lose the occasional close game but when there is a habit of losing them, then I believe that points to the damage inflicted by Riley and the loss of winning culture dating back to Callahan. A little disappointed Frost didn't have a little more success in that regard last year but there is no denying he will get it to where it needs to be.

Winning begets winning.

We lost 4 of those last year.  I would mark at least 2-3 of them up because of the lack of kicking.

I count nine losses by 7 or fewer:

2018: Colorado, Troy, Northwestern, Ohio State & Iowa

2019: Colorado, Indiana, Purdue & Iowa

And what's crazy about that is, if we win just one of those in 2018 & one in 2019, the whole narrative of these two seasons changes. 2018 would have been an improvement over Riley's last year, and in 2019 we would have gone to a bowl game. Not great progress, but progress.

We also won 4 games by seven or fewer.

Great... just the kind of stats I love to see.
