IDK, I may be naive, but I don’t think many people really connect names like that to racism. Maybe the confederate flag and maybe down south but when I see the Robert E Lee breakfast all that conveys to me is that it’s probably much larger than the normal person really needs for a breakfast....so I’d prob order it . I sincerely doubt it was the owners making any kind of personal or political statement. So that leaves me wondering why they didn’t just change the name, I mean everything else on their menu was extremely generic. I’m guessing they were just ready to get out of a business that is hard to make money at even when there aren’t pandemics and crap to deal with. I’ve seen tons of very good restaurants go belly up over the slightest hiccup. It really doesn’t matter how good the food is if the owners aren’t extremely business savvy and motivated to keep doing it. Guessing they either had already put enough away to say screw it or they were on the verge of losing it and this was just the last straw. It happens.
I am officially in morning. This is very sad, but I bet this is the first of many to fall. Say goodbye to all your downtown favorites in Lincoln and Omaha.
I get protesting something you oppose, but threatening their family and incidents at their homes is terrible. Hopefully the people that did those things get exposed.
General Lee was the definition of a statesman. He was committed to fighting for whichever side his state of Virginia chose to align with, which was decided by a vote that he had nothing to do with. Unless informed of specific examples of racism, most evidence (from letters) would show he disagreed with slavery
Make this easy...do you think everyone that fights in a war is fighting for just one thing. No. Not even close. In fact, I would argue that most people fighting in wars are not even fighting for what the main "cause" is...They are fighting because they have to, or because they want to, or because they have nothing else, or because they are mad or pissed. s#!t, you know how many soldiers (if you can call them that by the 3rd month of the civil war) just up and ran away, on both sides. They have (low) numbers set at like 300,000!
I can about guarantee you that the name of that dish had zero to do with their decision to close. That is WAY too easy of a fix if that’s all it was...which it wasn’t.
And anyone that was threatening them is a total dork.
