Agreed I think he's far and away the best although I like Gary Sharp as well. I really enjoyed when he hosted The Bottom Line solo because I was able to get all Severe and zero Benning.
Maybe he got a promotion like Kugler did? I miss the two of them together. They were insightful but hilarious. I remember when they used to do the Hour of Hate and when they would call in Callahan after he was fired! I was crying laughing. I hope he goes on to bigger things. Ever since ESPN took over 1620 it’s went downhill in my opinion.
@ladyhawke I would pay good money to get access to the old Callahan drops they would do. Oh my gosh those there were SO funny! "Hi, I'm 2004 bowl coach Bill Callahan I don't exist! Husssssssssssssssskerrrrrrrr fan."
Xmas32 I’m with you! I wonder if 1620 The Zone has an archive section? Those were great times. I also loved it when Chicago finally won the World Series. Kugler was in heaven!
They like him there.... I think he's okay. He's a Nebraska football fan isn't he? Always seems to have a lot of takes on GameDay.... Puts out videos after the games and such.
@teachercd That very well could be. Move Petersen or Bishop to the AM and slide Ravi into the afternoon slot or vice versa? God I hope not though, I just don't care for the current USC guys. If you made me pick, move Petersen to the AM and then Bishop and Ravi can nerd out about Creighton which is fine because I don't care about basketball. Ravi is ok but man, it takes him 15 minutes to make a 2 minute point and always come across condescending to me. Dude, nobody cares that you were the 3rd assistant coach for Grace University big freaking whoop.
@B.B. Hemingway I think radio hosts' salaries are dependent on market size and their ratings within that market. I'm sure the internet, podcasts, and satellite radio have put a dent into the radio business, which puts a dent in the hosts' salaries. I think some stations can still do very well if they have a strong local following. I live in Denver, but I listen to The Ticket out of Dallas nearly every day. I lived in DFW for 2 years over 10 years ago, but I got hooked on their radio station. They have a great app which I can listen to their station, and I think their radio hosts make pretty good $ (especially, the morning and evening drive time slots).
Getting back to Severe, they haven't said what the exact situation is, but 1620 has made it known that Severe won't be returning and "good luck to his future endeavors". That type of language makes me think that 1620 didn't want to pay Severe what he's worth, and they couldn't agree on contract terms going forward. I think Severe had been with Benning for 2+ years now after the OWH dropped The Bottom Line radio show. My guess is that 1620 jumped at the opportunity to grab Severe in the summer of 2019, gave him a decent contract through this December, and now that contract isn't worth it to 1620.
Probably so, but he's the best they've got/had. It'd be nice to see him catch on somewhere else locally, but don't know where that could be. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll start a Husker related podcast.
