This guys has always been a bit off, IMO.

Seems like his thing lately it to post snarky one-liners basically mocking people he doesn't agree with. I sent him a PM on May 13 telling him it was probably a bit much and he should go a different direction. I told him any one of them is not that bad but he'd gotten to where he was doing it pretty often and should probably stay away from that. At the time, he seemed to take it well.

He continued to do it so I gave him an actual warning yesterday asking him again to stop. Now he's kind of gone off the deep end. Here's our latest PM exchange:

I thought that was pretty damn mild, if you want to interpret that as an insult then fine. I simply meant he was wrong then went on to explain my thoughts a couple posts later.

You seem to have it out for me so I'll just go ahead and make your job easier and take a self imposed vacation.

I don't have it out for anyone. But you've taken to just taking little shots at people you disagree with. It's not that any one in particular is all that bad. It's that it's constantly just taking a little shot at something you don't agree with that isn't contributing anything to the discussion.

#1 - No Flaming/Trolling/Defamatory posts
Strong opinions are encouraged, and debated is not only welcomed – it's the main reason the board exists. If what you are considering posting doesn’t advance the issue being discussed – if it’s just taking a “shot” at someone – then either don’t post it, or phrase it in a way that meets the rules. There is absolutely no reason to verbally attack another user (aka flaming), and/or posting a message for the express purpose of generating a negative response (trolling). Any defamatory posts made against HuskerBoard, its representatives, or any other member may result in an immediate ban or temporary account disablement.Posts outside of the general theme of the topic which you are posting within will be moved or deleted.

I come here and feel like I have to tip toe on glass posting anything anymore. You guys gave me the stern talking to about the whole cm debacle and I agreed it was getting way out of hand.

But this was pretty small to get a warning point for I feel. I didn't add to the discussion? That comment led to a follow up comment that currently has 2 rep points so I'd say it's well within the guidelines considering his original comment was WAY more trollish to begin with.

But, fine. You got to slap my wrist, I may not agree with it but there is nothing I can do about it. I'll just take my leave of absence and leave it at that.

Like I said, any one of them is not that big of a deal. But you've been doing it a lot lately. And I think it's gotten past the point where it needs to be.

You were doing it to cm. You were doing it to 84. And now here.

I've tried to let you know a couple times that it wasn't really needed. Yet you keep doing it. Thus, you got a warning.

The 84 comment was to my recollection a 1 time comment and wasn't even insulting. This new issue wasn't even a big deal, it was part of the discussion and hardly worthy of a warning.

But again, I get it. You've made up your mind that I'm not offering anything around here so now anytime I have a slight disagreement with someone I'll either have to bite my lip or face a warning right?

Actually forget it. I'm taking it personal because it feels like an unnecesary slight towards me. It feels like a slight because I have a pretty good idea that you don't care for me.

Like I said, I'll just make myself more scarce and save you the trouble.

Anyway, I think he's a guy who enjoys being an internet tough guy and when there are a couple posters who are lightning rods for critisism, he thinks he can endear himself to the masses by being the school yard bully. I'm sure he doesn't see it that was but that's what he's doing.

Not sure what he's getting at with his little vacation but I guess we'll see. He's been saying all day he's taking a break but every time I log back in I have another PM from him. I doubt he'll actually be gone long, if at all.

He can contribute some nice things even if he's kind of odd. Hopefully he can just knock off the third-grade name-calling.

 
I think we all need to keep an eye on Redux for the foreseeable future. He's very unsettled in the DBHOF in the Woodshed right now because of @StPaulHusker, but, he has also posted in two separate places that he's close to "requesting a ban" because of how frustrated he is about this place and/or some of the posters.

FWIW - I think it's odd for people to request a ban. Another poster tried to do it once when we got into it over a thread. I told them I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction and to make their own choice about whether or not they should post here.

Yeah, I hope Redux settles down.  He probably will.  Just every once in awhile he gets pretty wound up.

On a (related) side note, my vote would be not to actually "ban" anyone just because they request it.  We can deactivate their account or give them a permanent suspension if that's what they really want but I'd rather not give them the satisfaction of being able to say "I got myself banned from the board" or whatever.  Maybe that's petty of me but basically I don't want to let them feel like they're running the show.

If they do something to deserve it, fine.  But I'm not buying the "I'm tired of posting here, just ban me" bit.

Yep - that's exactly how I feel too, Mav. I don't want to play that kind of game with any poster and they should be mature enough to make up their own mind.

 
Updating for housekeeping purposes:

@Redux has been suspended until the beginning of the Husker fall football camp in 2020. Substantial evidence suggested he had been operating a troll sock account @Rusty Shackleford since 2016. The sock account has been permanently banned.

 
FWIW he just sent me this PM - claims he knows who Rusty is/was, but it wasn't him. I expected this. I don't really buy it given all of the evidence. But he also doesn't seem that torn up about it overall.

I don't know what to tell him, to be honest. Leaning towards not saying anything. What's done is done and he was, at the very least, complicit in allowing what was essentially a troll account to exist for months unhindered.

Not staying, just stopping by to say you guys got this one wrong.  It is what it is.  For about a week I was really pissed off about it.  Truthfully, I DO know who the Rusty account was.  It was someone I know whom I wanted to have get involved with the board, a Husker fan but a Righty.  I was hoping for a little more diversity around here.  What I DIDN'T want was the account to somehow get linked to me and apparently just that happened because of his carelessness or what have you concerning the rules.  Once it was clear he wasn't going to contribute much I tried to distance from him on the board and that clearly was too late.  He took it as a joke and since he hadn't been a member here for a long amount of time, thought it would be funny to get banned.  I don't know what the tipping point was but obviously I paid the price for it.

I was going to shrug it off, come back after the break and try to be more nonchalant and numb and less confrontationaltowards those who'vebeen so towardsme in the past.  So today I came in and curiosity got the best od me, so I perused the banned thread.  Obviously anonymity for a temporary ban isn't a thing here.  It was clearly made at least semi public knowledge that I was banned because of some connection to the Rusty account.  So now even if I wanted to come back, I can't.

I doubt this would change yours or anyone else's mind anyways, and frankly now I don't even care.  I'm quite certain I'd be treated as a pariah.  One misstep and I'll get a permaban.  So there really is little incentive for me to come back.  I will say I still do appreciate what you and the other mods and admins do around here, it's not an easy job.

Sorry I haven't been around much this summer. Things have been pretty crazy. Regarding @Redux's PM, I do remember him saying he wanted to get his friend to join to get another conservative voice in the P&R forum, but I don't recall what that friend's username was

 
@Reduxreferred to knapplc as Chris Crocker in a P&R thread. The post that sparked it was germane and fair from knapplc.

I didn't think it was worth a full blown warning, but I did send Redux a PM that we are acutely aware of their dislike for one another and we aren't going to have tolerance for that kind of stuff anymore. Said to place knapplc on ignore or effort some willpower to not respond to him.
