A look into the 2015 team

With the departure of 6 members of the 2014 team, and one open scholarship from last year, we have 7 new scholarship players who will join the team this year. As we all know, our void right now is at the power 4 or 5 spot. We currently have two guys we are wining and dining for their services at that last scholarship to fill that need. With that said, I wanted to take a deep look into this 2015 team Miles has built.

Do you realize we have 4 players who were 4 star, top 150 guys on this team? (Andrew White SG/SF, Kansas , Glynn Watson PG, Edward Morrow PF, Anton Gill SG, Louisville)

In addition, Shavon Shields SG/SF was all Big Ten last year averaging 15 ppg, with a 44% FG and 83% FT.

Benny Parker is a tremendous defender and ball handler.

Nick Fuller was a 37% 3pt shooter last year and we didn't even get to see him much, he could light it up in his 3rd year with the program.

Jack McVeigh averaged 25ppg on the Australian National team last year and held his own with Dante Exum (NBA draft #5 pick) and Jonah Bolden (5* UCLA commit).

Jake Hammond has a year of experience and added strength to his name and will be depended on for that center spot.

Take all this and add the two guys we are looking at for that final spot, (a 4* top 150 7'2" transfer from Providence (NCAA tournament team) and Max Bleidfeldt a 6th man from Michigan with 3 years playing experience in the big 10)... and you have a potential very good team. Let's take a look at the depth we have going into this season.

Scoring can not be any worse than last year, so there is a bright side having scorers coming into the program even if they are young. Parker on the other hand is a defensive specialist. His ball skills under pressure are not the greatest, so having 2 new point guards are a big plus. Inside play, especially rebounding will be an issue. Hopefully, Hammond has improved and Morrow can play big.

 
Depending on whether or not we land one of the remaining big fellows...................this team will have talent, but the lack of an inside force may dictate we run more of an offense similar to Billy Tubbs back in his Okie years. Plenty of fast, willowy forwards who can slash and get up and down the court.

That wouldn't be all bad AND would be highly entertaining...!!

 
Lots of new/young faces but a lot of question marks.

In terms of long term, Paschal is a better get but he is highly coveted. Kansas, Virginia and Michigan State are all in on him. He is thanks to our new Asst. Coach Burno, so we will get a good idea of his recruiting abilities with Paschal.

Short term/Veteran leadership makes Max a better fit.

I think there is a legit chance we hold a scholarship if we cant get either.

In terms of the future, I think the future is bright but this year is grim. We werent very good last year and while Petteway had his frustrating moments, he was still an elite scorer. No one coming in has proven to be a true scorer, but Andrew White could be.

Watson and Morrow will learn by fire. Both will see legit time and i predict both are starters by B1G season.

I think the starting lineup at the beginning will be:

Parker

Webster

White

Shields

Hammond.

No one knows what we will get from McVeigh or Jacobsen. Same with Hammond, at times last year i like what we saw, but the fact they refused to give him meaningful playing time tells me he hasnt figured it out in practice.

At this point, Nebraska's best chance/hope is that they play a team game. With Petteway, guys seemed to play with their hands in there pockets. Teams forced other guys to score and those guys couldnt take advantage of open looks.

Will need guys to step up. Guys like Nick Fuller and Tai Webster. They need to be on their game all the time.

I think we finish with a better record than last year, but it will still be a tough game. Building good pieces.

2016 could have a nice foundation with White and Gill and if they can add a couple of bigs, have a few top 150's with a year of experience.

Not sure what to think.

Once we get into the B1G it will be Watson at point. I love Parker's defensive mine set, but he is a offensive nightmare. He is fast, but can not handle pressure, decision making is questionable & he throws up bricks.

 
I believe this is a year that this team could be totally different at the end of the year than at the beginning. I firmly believe we will see some major growing pains at the beginning. We may have a relatively bad OOC. However, if those players continue to develop throughout the season (quite possible) this team could sneak up on some teams in B1G play.

I dont get the feeling that Eveyln will be good enough to jump Parker if that is what you are implying..

Parker is awful on the offensive side, but he has a place on this team with his intense defense..

I get the Watson hype, but he will have to earn that spot.

I thought Benny took a step back defensively last year. He does not improve from last year, I can see him 3rd.
