Ads at the bottom of the page?

Yes, Chad recently signed on with a new advertiser and this is the code they provided us. I didn't realize it was going to be this annoying, but I don't think we have any control over the interface.

There's a thread in Board Feedback and for what it's worth, I agree that the ads themselves are terrible. You see the same stuff everywhere now -- clickbait articles as ads. At least on a site like this, as opposed to a news site, it's clear that they are just ads and not "related news content". Small comfort, I suppose.

Either AdBlock Plus or Ghostery should take of it.

So what are the logistics of how HuskerBoard benefits? I'm assuming if you use an ad blocker the board doesn't get credit. Do you get credit for how many pages load with it active? That is, if I close it out as soon as HukserBoard loads is that "worse" than leaving it open as I browse around the site?

I have no idea. Chad is probably the guy to ask.

I'm guessing it's probably based on clicks. I can't in good conscience recommend anyone to click on one of these things, though, if only for security reasons.

I've not clicked on any of them nor will I they are super annoying though.

I don't think it's that bad. People just like to complain. If it was truly annoying people would just turn on their ad blocker.

Hey guys. It's a pay per impression arrangement. So yes, the longer you leave open and browse around the site, the better for the board.

If it's truly inhibiting your experience, feel free to X it out. That will disable for 24 hours.

As ETR said, we definitely need the income. Board had another loss last year - about 6 straight years my company is footing the bill for.

I knew members wouldn't love it, but figure it's less annoying than converting the board into a 'pay to use' platform.

I'm interested to see how much this brings in, will make a decision on it's worth after a couple months of tracking.

Thanks for all you guys do.

Chad

I wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't cover up the site navigation links at the bottom of the page. Maybe I can be retrained but it's right in the way of the links I click on often.

I understand the need for the revenue. Not saying it's a bad idea, just kind of sits in a bad spot.

Just a thought, is there an easy way to opt out via a subscription? One of the other forums I frequent (a tech/gaming forum) does this. I'm not sure of the costing logistics, but I know there's gotta be a handful of people who'd pay a nominal fee to help the board, and keep the ads out too.
