Ads on Mobile Version

There is a status update thread about issues the ads are causing on mobile.  It seems fine on my phone so I'm not sure what they are talking about.

Is it possible to just add a little more "white space" at the bottom of the pages so the ads aren't covering anything up?

On my phone I had no problems either. I'm an android user on a moto...not sure if this is a phone by phone issue or what. The white space thing could be a decent intervention.

I never get on the board via my phone, makes me feel like I'm getting old or something, so I can't comment on that. I prefer to see the board on my laptop and interact that way.

@Mavric @Saunders , have you or anyone else had any discussions with David regarding the changes that have occurred? There's obviously been quite a bit of chatter about the ads and the page lengths, and I'm just wondering if anyone has heard anything from him or if we could discuss any possible tweaks. I'm not gonna lie, these pages with only 15 posts are pretty annoying. I just don't like it when people have questions and concerns and we have no answers for them.

We had a quick chat about the posts per page when it was originally changed.  I don't think he'd shy away from the reasoning that it's to bump page views and thus ad revenue so the board is "viable".  I don't think it's any secret that the board has been operating at a loss for a long time.  How much of that is needed to get it in the black is not something to which I'm privy.

As far as the ads go, I guess I don't see a big difference.  I don't view this site on mobile all that much but I only get the banner at the bottom of the page.  So I can't really speak to the issues they seem to be causing with others.  I tried to get people to post their setup so we could try to narrow the scope a bit but I haven't seen much response.

I really haven't seen much in the way of people asking questions.  I guess there were a couple specific questions about actual dollar amounts but I'm not sure that's really anyone else's business.  I don't have any idea on any of that.  Other than that, there has been plenty of complaining but that was pretty much expected.  If there are questions that I've missed, I'll try to find answers.

As an addendum - and no, I'm not just saying this to toe the company line - I do think it's worth noting that there have been a couple changes - or at least changes in plans - to try to keep the board the way we've been enjoying it.  The planned transition to a different interface was scrapped when it was discovered that some of the features and and functions that we currently enjoy would not be available.  And a prize was offered for the weekly winner of the prediction contest which was a nice gesture.

I realize everyone is going to have things that they like and don't like and things they value more than others.  And I'm not saying that makes other complaints invalid.  But there are going to be trade-offs.

I don't know if there would be any consideration to changing the posts per page setting.  I'm not sure there is going to be a nice middle ground to find because some are going to be unhappy unless it goes all the way back to where it was and I don't think that's really on the table.

I hear you, and I understand the reason for having as many pages as possible. I'm sure it's too early to tell, but I wonder if 15 posts/page would be enough and if we could possibly increase the post count if we could afford it (if that makes sense).

I've also seen quite a few ask about donating to decrease the need for ad revenue. I don't know how open he would be to that, if it would even be worth it.

Definitely! Like you said, people don't like change and they'll complain about it just to complain. The changes have been relatively minor, and while I would prefer the pages be longer, it's not the end of the world.

I had a talk with David yesterday, and I strongly pitched this idea. He said it's something they do on HuskerMax, and he would like to implement it here. I think it's very viable, and the cost per yer for a "premium" membership would be negligible, like a couple dollars a month.
