Banned IP List

This was suggested by Dave a couple weeks ago.  He suggested wiping out the Banned IP list and starting over.  I'm not sure if that's the right answer because of all the foreign (spam) IPs that are in there.

I started going through the Banned IP list tonight.  Any US IP address I'm getting rid of.  Most of them are from some ISP so they're really not doing any good anyway as the person they are meant to keep out could easily get a different IP from the same ISP or a legit user could end up with the banned IP - which is what we are seeing.  Also, most of the foreign IPs that I've run across so far are only a single IP address.  I'm expanding the ban to include the entire IP range which will be much more effective.  I'm also labeling them with the country of origin so I'll know which ones I've done and they will be easy to identify in the future.

The bad news is this will be quite a long process.  There were 292 pages 25 IP addresses each.  I got one page completed and deleted enough others to shorten it to 291 pages but that's obviously going to take awhile.  So I'm not sure what the best answer is.  Either fight it for awhile and hopefully get though the list in the coming months or totally delete it and have to start from scratch.

It dawned on me that when I found a good IP that needed to be removed from the list I should also remove other IPs in the same range.  That sped up the process quite a bit.  I'm not sure how many people with Cox in Omaha had trouble from time to time but I freed up a bunch of their IPs.  Also found a decent list of Verizon IPs.

I "completed" two pages of foreign IPs but I deleted enough US IPs to shorten the list by 13 pages.  Still a bit of a task but that's a much better rate than I thought it would be.

I'll keep plugging away as I have time.

Thought of a better way to go about this.  Verizon and Cox were showing up quite a bit (and now I've found quite a few Windstream IPs).  So I looked up what IP addresses are assigned to Verizon and (I think) deleted all those out of the list.  There were dozens of pages of them.  I've cleared out about 20% of the list so far.  I'll see if I can find some IP ranges for Cox and Windstream.

Now, if there was just a mass delete function......
