beanman rant

beanman posted a new topic entitled "For all the delicate feelings out there" in forum "Board Feedback". It originally stated:

I have suggested a couple things to Knapp via IM and he doesn't bother to respond. I expressed my problem with people using the word retard in status updates and that is apparently acceptable but me having a Jennifer Lawrence and Big Bang Theory gif for my sig is too offensive for some. So since we're so concerned with this being a family friendly site (Knapp's words) why then don't we put the daily skin forum within in the shed? A family friendly sight wouldn't have a "Daily Skin" forum right on its front page now would it?

Sorry to be a pain but it pisses me off that we are so inconsistent, and it also pisses me off that Knapp gets on his high horse but doesn't have the courtesy to respond to my suggestions.

Also, I know several people on this site that have special needs kids (as do I) and it's ridiculous to allow the word retard to be used anywhere. If I get my warning level raised for calling someone a "butt wipe" then surely the word retard should warrant something.
He has subsequently deleted the contents and replaced it with language along the lines of "Screw it, it's not worth it." So, as far as I'm concerned, that's that. However, I wanted to address the issue of his calling out Lance on this. Memory being what it is, I can't be sure but I seem to recall that Lance posted something in here about beanman's issue with the word "retarded". I seem to also recall replying that I saw no reason to ban the word - that it's the application that is and will always be the issue, not the word itself. I want to also say that I recall offering up other examples, such as "b!^@h" or "bastard" as words that can be used pejoratively, but that are not intrinsically or inherently offensive.

Trouble is, I can find that thread - assuming it exists. Anyway, if it does, I just wanted to say that when there is a decision on this kind of thing, I have no problem with a Moderator informing a member that the Moderator has brought it up for discussion and that I (or any other Admin) has taken a position and what that position is. You as Moderators don't need to be unfairly blamed for any decisions that are not yours.

He had bouncing bikini girls in a gif in his Sig, which he knows belongs in Daily Skin. This was my PM and his reply:

We've long had a policy about leaving the boobs in the Daily Skin forum. Someone alerted me to your sig, and I've removed the skin. Feel free to post that in the appropriate forum.
The Daily Skin forum should be buried in the shed then if this is supposed to be a family friendly site. This place gets lamer all the time.
I didn't feel that warranted a response, and I'm not even sure what I could have responded.

I vaguely remember conversations with several people over the years about the word "retard," but if beanman was one of those two or three people who complained about it I don't remember. I have always asked the person who posted that word to remove it if a member asks. I don't remember it ever being a problem with anyone. True is the guy I talk to most about that word; it grates on him because of his son.

I'm not sure where this is coming from. Aside from that PM exchange, I haven't had much interaction with beanman, that I recall anyway, in a while.

I checked out his posting history, and it seems he has these moments every year or two. Something sets him off, he rants, and then he's back to "normal".

Well, this was interesting...

Is there any way to recover personal messages that I inadvertantly deleted? I'm guessing no, but you're the man that can help me if it's possible.

Thank you sir.

Brian
Unfortunately, no. I'm sure that it's retained somewhere in the database, but we don't have access to it. Sorry.
Darn. So much for catching Knapp in a lie. Thanks for getting back to me so quick AR.
Brian

See, that's where I'm starting to think this guy is off his rocker. Lie? I said I didn't remember it. And I asked him if he followed up on his request if I didn't answer, and he didn't, and he didn't answer that.

He's interested in bitching. And that's about it.

Yeah, like a said, every couple of years he goes on one of these tears. No idea why - the others I viewed didn't make much sense, either.
