Board Upgrade

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
Last night, we upgraded the board software. There are some bugs that need to be worked out. Starting this thread to address those, as well as any tips on using the new software. So, let me start off with two bugs:

1. Notice that there's not a Warning Status any longer. The way to give a warning is to go to the Member's profile and click the Edit Profile or Edit Member button. Unfortunately, that throws an error. The problem is that the profileModern template is customized and we need to update it. As a work around we can revert it to its original look. Zoogies, I don't recall whether you or I edited that profile, and if so, what we changed. Any recall?

2. The Mark Community Read link at the bottom-left of any page now displays the drop down list as a drop UP list - and can't scroll it. I think the fix would be to either change it back to a drop down or to increase the size of the black bar so that the list displays within the bar when it pops up. However, as I recall, increasing the size of that bar messes up the CSS for everything around the bar. Have to play with it and see what can be done.

Should have added that you can reach the Warn system by going to the Report Center and then clicking the link on the left to Manage Members. Type the Member's name, and then click Edit.

I reverted the profileModern so we can edit members directly. However, I noticed a new bug. In any thread, at the bottom, should be a list of people viewing the thread. Instead, we now have each member represented by <<<, with the middle one a hyperlink to nowhere. So, something else to fix. Since the list appears on the main page, showing all the registered users, makes me think it's an issue with the customization with one of the Thread templates.

I can no longer see member's email addresses on their profile pages.

I would like to see their IP address on their profile page as well. If those could both get turned on, that'd be swell.

Yeah, not seeing the IP will make it harder to enforce some things that's for sure!

Yep, fixed.
Some of the same issues with IE still remain even with this version of the board. I'd hoped the upgrade would address them, but apparently not. The Quote feature doesn't work - have to go to Plain Text mode still to quote. Inserting a URL is even worse than before - it shows a pop-up that doesn't work, and that won't go away. Have to kill the browser entirely. Oh, well, perhaps IP.Board will someday make them work. And it works in Chrome, so I can always use that as an alternative.

Still would like to see IP addresses and emails back on member Profile pages. I'm going to keep dropping that reminder until that happens.

Is the ability to see members' warning status under their avatar in a post gone for good, or is this a feature we need to turn on? That was really handy, and if it's available I'd like to see that come back.

Speaking of member warnings, you can see much more information at a click on a member's profile now. @Landlord of Memorial Stadium is a good example. If you go to his profile it says "SUSPENDED." If you click on that, a pop-up shows you the message sent to the member, and below that, the message put into the warning page by the mod. Nifty feature.

The member warning system has also undergone a large change. It's a bit kludgy and I'd hope we can modify it for our purposes. Near as I can tell, you have to go to the member's profile to give them a warning, which would mean you'd have to copypasta the URL of the post you're warning them for before you go there - which is a bit of a bother if you're trying to save the text of what they said.

Go to their profile page, click the Warnings below their avatar, and a new page opens. You have to choose a reason for the warning from the --Select a Reason-- drop-down, and this is what I hope we can change. The options are:

Spamming

Inappropriate Language

Signature Violation

Abusive Behaviour (note the British spelling here)

Topic Bumping

We rarely give points for language, and topic bumping isn't against our rules. Maybe we could modify that list?

The biggest issue I see is there's no way to suspend a member on this page. At the bottom of the warning page there's a Punishment field that can't be modified, and seems to be tied to the drop-down menu. Using my dummy account Rocketsocks, I tried to give a warning and the only option I have in the Punishment section is "Verbal Warning Only."

I've given Rocketsocks two warnings, which is overall his third since I started using that account to test, but it only shows two warning points. Maybe because the other point is from 2011, and there's a time limit for points to apply to this system. Who knows.

If I go to the Moderator Control Panel in the upper left corner and search out Rocketsocks, I can stop him from posting Status Updates (which is a good feature we didn't have before), but I don't see any way to suspend posting abilities or suspend a member there, either.

If I'm missing this, please help me find that function.

A lot of those are things that have to be coded. There isn't an option in the Control Panel to just turn them on, unfortunately. If I recall correctly, the reasons for warnings can be edited, so if everyone can contribute to a list, we can do that pretty quickly. The IP address, email, etc. we will have to code.

Okay, see if you can now see a member's email address on their profile page, and post back to let me know (ANY MOD, not just Lance).

Try it now. If you click a member's avatar, you are taken to their profile page. Look down, and you should see a heading called Contact Information, and under it you should see the email if I've done this right.

Looks like the warning emails are going out now, too. I gave my test account a couple of warnings and got both emails.
