Can we please have some reasonable limits on signatures

Gifs and youtube videos seem a little excessive. They take up a disproportionate amount of page space in a thread and slow loading times. I also can't imagine that they're good for HB's bandwith.

 
This is something that needs to be discussed. I'd almost prefer to do away with sigs altogether, or have a very low size limit, both dimensions and bytes. And I agree - youtube videos are excessive.

 
I would say something like "GET OFF MY LAWN"

But i actually agree.. for different reasons tho:

I have ADD and when someone has a GIF i cant focus and get distracted for about 20 minutes...especially if it involves boobies.

 
File size can't be detected on HB's end. Signature images are almost always hosted elsewhere, so it doesn't affect HB's bandwith.

There are currently limits on the height of images in signatures (250px), as well as the height of the overall signature space (300px). We can continue to lower this if it's too much.

It might be possible to detect file type and eliminate GIFs this way. Wouldn't be able to detect animated from non animated GIFs, however. And this might be confusing.

Not all gifs are terrible I guess, some people have very small ones and they aren't bad. It's the huge ones that slow everything down that I'm not a fan of. There's no need for a gif that big. "OMG I love this gif and instead of just posting it in a pertinent thread I'm going to have it as my sig so everyone sees it everywhere!"...I don't get it.

I'm fine with pictures or text, but I don't think videos and gifs should be allowed. Could you guys maybe just make an option for us to turn off the signatures all together?

 
There is a setting to turn them off (not see them). It's in your User CP, top of Ignore Preferences. I'm sure I'm missing some good ones, but it's easier to read through the forums without the noise.

 
So, do we want the signature height limit lowered from 300px / (250px max image)? I'd be happy to accomodate as signature terror is one of my least favorite things.

By the way, did you know that you can disable signatures on a per-user basis as you browse threads? There's a gray "X" that pops up when you move your mouse over another user's signature:

I think this feature may be new as of the latest update, as I hadn't noticed it before.
