Cheering when we're down

You guys act like all the fans in the stands did was boo...

The crowd was really, really loud for 3 downs, and then the defense would give up a big play and the crowd was still loud after that, but then they would just keep doing that and eventually score thats when the boos came late in the game because this happened over and over all game so it just got frustrating

Yes exactly. The fans we very loud but Ball ST. must have converted 80% of their third downs...it was rediculous.

I entered the following post on another thread but it applies here as well.......

I attended the Arkansas/Kentucky game last Saturday and the Hog fans booed the team and Houston Nutt during the second half that was filled with ineptness and sloppy play. I sent an e-mail to the local Sports Editor today telling him that "good fans" don't boo no matter what the circumstance. I used Nebraska as my example of "good fans." Please don't fall into the trap of booing every time your team does not respond to a certain expectation. I have always respected the Husker fans and the Husker program as one of the flagships of college football. Please stay loyal and if your beloved Huskers don't quite meet your expectations, cheer louder. You will be shocked at the team response

I don't like booing anything but a bad ref call or a cheap shot.

Other than that, I choose not to boo because I know I couldn't do any better. That goes certainly for playing but for coaching too!

:bonez

I doubt the boos were directed toward the players, but toward one coach. But are the players out on the field going to know the difference?

Ball State was 6 of 8 on 3rd downs of 5 or more yards. The crowd was very loud most of the game... but every time we got really ramped up on 3rd down Ball State burned us. It just got very frustrating to watch and eventually the fans got tired of it. Was kind of like "if we are going to give our all as fans to help you out... get us a stop on 3rd and long once in a while".

This is not the first time that Nebraska fans have booed their own team. This is not the last time it will happen. It's not classy.. but Nebraska fans are not saints, and will react to what they're feeling when it gets ridiculous. Nebraska teams led by Berringer, Frost, Crouch and Lord have all been booed by their fans... and those teams certainly didn't give up 610 yards to a team like ball state.

You can call it parity, but how do you explain Ball St. losing to Miami (OH), who got blown out by Cincinnati and Colorado, holding them to 13 points and 338 yards.

Yes the gap between lower-tier schools and upper-tier schools is closing a bit.. but nowhere near close enough that it's acceptable to give up 610 yards and 40 points to a middle-tier MAC school.

Get behind these kids and let them know they can do it!
Should we give all the players a second place trophy if they lose to?

NEBRASKA can just stop keeping score so the players won't feel bad if they are losing.

Really, the fans were loud?????????? Not were I was sitting. It was the quietest Husker game that I had ever sat through. The boos weren't even loud in our section (north stadium).

We are in danger of becoming an easy place for a visiting team to play. If the crowd does not get enthused.....then what's the advantage of home field. Memorial Stadium needs to be an intimidating place to play....Where the opposing team feels uncomfortable. Sometimes I wonder if "the best fans in the world" are a little TOO NICE!

How's the song go? Something like...

"We all stick together through all kinds of weather at dear ol' Nebraska U..."

I know we are all frustrated as hell and everything about the way the defense is playing... but I really think that these kids need to know that we are behind them and we still support them no matter what. Now, more than ever!
