I have significant problems with the content of this thread. Several posts are either outright bigotry (which we don't even allow in the Shed) or simply making jokes about Dennard's intelligence.

Why do we allow this? And why has nobody taken action on the report in the Report Center? I saw that newearthhusker was reading that thread, BRI may have (he's been around since the report), and zoogies actually posted in the thread.

Is everyone OK with this thread, and the content therein? Are we comfortable talking about our players this way?

 
I didn't read the whole thread, but I caught the Airplane references and thought they were hilarious. There may be some ignorance purveyed, but when you put yourself out there with a conversation like that, you leave yourself open for commentary of that nature. I think taking it down is probably the right thing, as it borders on good taste, and we definitely want to err on the side of caution when it comes to matters of bigotry/hatred and critique of the intellect of a student-athlete. I think your move to the junkyard was probably the correct one.

 
I did move it to the Junkyard. Anyone think it should go back? I don't, but then I'm a discrimination investigator - I may be a little more sensitive to stuff like this than most.

 
I didn't think there was really bigotry or discrimination there. What really got that thread off track was the discussions of being racist or not. I don't understand why so many are critical of players for talking like that, but I don't think that really comes close to bigotry. Looking it over again what is most troublesome is one poster's crack on "does our team really have 3.0 GPA", which really is not in good taste. I think there's a distinction to be drawn between that and the other posts saying that it doesn't reflect well on one's intelligence to talk like that (which I think is just being a bit uptight).

I think a lock at least is good and since it's over in the Junkyard anyway, no real reason to move it back.
